I've had my Merlin fic open in front of me pretty much all day and managed to write maybe fifty words. And that's a generous estimate. It's the last section, the home stretch as it were, but I seem to have developed some sort of mental writer's cramp. I know what I want to do, I just can't do it. I did, however, fine tune what I already had, to make it fall more in line with what I want. So that's something, I guess.

Meanwhile, on the home front, Tookie is about to find herself living on the mean streets of Pittsburgh if she doesn't knock it off. She has spent the entire day poking and scratching at me to feed her. And then I feed her and as soon as she returns from the kitchen she resumes the 'feed me now' poking and scratching. I can't tell if she's really just that hungry or if she's just so darn senile that she can't remember having eaten five minutes ago. Either way, we are not friends today.

And on the sports front, both the Penguins and the Pirates ended their winning streaks today. The Pens lost to the Flyers 3-6 and the Pirates lost to the Braves 1-11. I did not watch the Pirates but I did faithfully tune in to the Penguins game. It was disappointing, but not unexpected. And hey, regardless of anything else, there were plenty of fights.

Hm, looking at it like that, it seems like a kinda bad day. It wasn't really, though. It's been raining off and on, which is a perfect excuse to stay in and play on the laptop. Too lazy to even turn on the Wii, so it was mostly spider solitaire and online jigsaw puzzles (plus hockey).

It's an interesting thing with the jigsaw puzzles. When I pick a puzzle that seems to be relatively easy for most people, with an average solve time of maybe thirty to forty minutes (with a 240 piece classic cut, which means each piece is about the size of a pencil eraser) I do slightly worse than the average, by maybe two to five minutes. However, when the puzzles are harder and the average solve time is anywhere between an hour to an hour and a half, I consistently do much better than the average time, with the longer the average time, the larger the gap between my time and the average time, so that for puzzles of, say, eighty to ninety minutes, I finish almost half an hour ahead of the game. I assume it has something to do with my prefered method of attacking a puzzle. I always have to do the outside edges first and then fill in. I'm best when there is a lot of variation in color/pattern, making it much easier to figure out roughly where pieces go, but this is when the average time is slowest. Makes no sense to me.

Finally, I watched the Miss USA pageant, mainly because I was too lazy to turn the tv off after the hockey. Brain cells screamed in agony and curled up dead. I wish I could remember the specific questions the final five contestants had to answer. Miss California was asked if she supported same-sex marriage, which she did not. One of the others was asked if she thought it was fair that the government was spending billions in the financial bailout, and she answered that the money would be better spent on education and social programs. I can't remember the rest. One of the poor girls was completely unprepared for her question and had no answer. She tried to bullshit her way through. The question, which I don't remember specifically, was asking her to make a yes or no reply to something. Her answer. As long as you act with integrity, it doesn't matter which end of the political spectrum you are, just remember to act with integrity. This didn't even peripherally answer the question. But it was entertaining to watch her mentally flail (they only have thirty seconds to come up with an answer) for something, anything, to say.

And now it's midnight, I should go to bed so that I can let Tookie poke at me in a prone position.

*laughs at your description of the pageant*
Hope Tookie let you get some sleep.

Tookie was actually mostly okay last night. She did start poking about twenty minutes or half an hour after I went to bed, but settled down pretty quickly and only woke me once in the middle of the night.
