Well, the writing of Charlie!fic is clearly going to have to wait until another day. I've got a big fat two paragraphs of nothing.

Instead of writing, I decided to play around with my webpage. Those of you who are familiar with Yahoo GeoCities may know that they have a program called Page Builder which helps those of us who don't know html from wtf. Being one of those people, I've used Page Builder to create my webpage.

Now, the last several times I've tried to work on it, Page Builder won't launch for me, leaving me with little option but to stare at the computer in frustrated confusion, swearing enthusiastically but uninventively. It finally reached the point where my brother complained that the last several chapters of 'Courage' were missing and was I ever planning to put them up. So I called a halt to my inexplicably ineffective swearing and made an attempt to put the chapters up manually.

*shudders*

I really am next thing to entirely illiterate when it comes to html. I've learned a bit (a tiny bit) through using the lj codes, and I learned a bit more today. It's amazing what random trial and error will teach you, if you have the patience to play around with the code all day in order to make one or two minor changes. Sadly, I don't have nearly enough patience to learn how to make some of the changes I'd like to make.

I did figure out a good bit, however. 'A New Kind of Courage' is complete. I've also reorganized the place, so that my Farscape and LotR fics are listed on separate pages. I've added a page for Lost fics while I was at it, so the place is growing by leaps and bounds. I'd love to change the background and text color on the Farscape and Lost pages but don't know the codes for the colors I want. I'm also searching for new pics to use. If anyone knows about this sort of thing, I'd be most grateful for any help.

After all that work, I thought I'd post a link so you can go over and take a gander at my newly remodeled place, Auntiemeesh's Parlor, or not, as you desire.

Hmmm.

HTML in my experience can be very tricky, but once you have it you have it

Lots of really stupid questions will now begin. First, is this a free site or do you pay for it? Second, you say you know nothing about html and I know even less but would love to have a page for my stories. Your page looks amazing and I love what you've done with it. How hard was this to create? A friend is suppose to bring me a book on the subject but I am afraid I won't understand it enough to do something with it. LOL Anyway, how do you get started on a thing like this?

GeoCities has free and paid sites. I think the main difference is that on the free sites, there are ads. An example of that is Marigold's Recommendations (http://www.geocities.com/marigoldsrecommendations/). I have a GeoCities Plus plan, which is about five dollars a month, and then there is another plan that is more for small businesses, I think, which is a bit more expensive.

I really do know very little about html, and knew even less when I started fixing up my webpage. GeoCities has a Page Builder tutorial that helped me get started on my index page. It was pretty funny, because I really didn't know what the hell I was doing. I made my index page and then couldn't figure out how to make the other pages and link to them. I panicked for a bit thinking I'd just shelled out the money to have this webpage and that was all it was going to be, one page with nothing in it. Once I figured out how to create new pages and how to link them together, it was pretty easy to do everything, up until my computer stopped allowing Page Builder to work. Now it's a bit more difficult, lol.

Honestly, I don't think you'd have any trouble figuring out what to do. I got some help at this site (http://www.davesite.com/webstation/html/), which is an HTML tutorial for people like us who want to have a webpage but don't know what the heck we're doing. It's pretty simple to understand and it has you make a sample page while you're going through it, so you can see exactly what the code is doing. I had actually forgotten until just now that I had it bookmarked. I'm going to have to go back and spend some time studying it, lol.

As to how you get started on something like this, I just went ahead and did it. I had no idea what I wanted it to look like, I just played around with it until I was at least a little happy with how it looked.

If you decide to go ahead and set up a webpage and you have any questions, I'd be glad to help (for whatever that's worth, with my limited knowledge).

:)

thank you! I will chek out that link. I am off tomorrow and I may give this thing a shot. I have been threatening to do it for ages now, but keep losing my nerve. I know very little about HTML. I can change the background on my lj and use the or for bold and italics, but that is about it! LOL Cross your fingers because I may just muck this up in a very big way. Thank you for the help!
