I woke up early, have already shoveled the snow twice, and have nothing fun to do until the Pens' game at 2. So it's time to post a snowy picspam.

Car Antennae

The snow started around three or four pm, yesterday. When I got home at five, there was about half an inch on the ground. By nine pm, it looked like this.

Snow is a'falling

At eleven, the snow was still coming down hard and starting to pile up.

It's snowing, pt. 2

My next door neighbor's son is visiting, and he built a little snowman on the hood of his truck.

Itty Bitty Snowman

I got up right around sunrise (don't ask me why, the snow just made me about as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning) and headed out to see how much we ended up with. The answer, way more than I was expecting.

Early morning calm

I don't personally own a snow shovel - my landlady seems to have an arrangement with someone because the snow always gets shoveled pretty promptly. But since I was up so early, with nothing to do, I went down into Landlady's basement in search of snow removal equipment. In a stroke of luck I found an old snow shovel. In short order, I was back outside, digging my way through the better part of two feet of snow. I'm now very grateful for the very short walk out to the main sidewalk, and the very short length of main sidewalk that goes with this house. But it's all shoveled.

Look Ma, I shoveled!

Snow is a wonderfully transformative thing. What was one a prosaic bush in front of the house has turned into an alien landscape or some sort of folded subspace.

Folded snow space

I opened the blinds for the cats and they were fascinated. Enough so that they were both sitting in the windowsill without bugging each other for several long minutes.

Snow cats

They have since retired to their separate sofas for a good, long, well-deserved rest.

And that is it, my dears. A snow-covered morning in Western PA.

That's kind of how I feel, too. I keep going to the window to see if all that snow is really there, lol.

Ohhh, pretty! Such a beautiful thing to wake up to in the morning! And good for you, for shoveling the walk! I would have been too lazy, lol.

Saturday is normally my day to go nowhere and do absolutely nothing. For some reason, being snowed in and not able to go anywhere, however, has made me just itch to get out of the house. So I went out and shoveled, lol.

It's beautiful. We were supposed to get snow too but so far all we've had are long panicked lines at the grocery store and lots of cold rain. I think it's going to miss us this time. The pictures are lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Long panicked lines at the grocery store and then lots of cold rain does not sound like much fun. I hope you're staying dry this weekend.

WOW!!! let me tell you, I am impressed!!
True, I am easily impressed by snow, since we don't get so much of it here in southern Italy, but still... wow....

I was impressed, too. When I woke up this morning, I was expecting maybe eight to ten inches. This was a surprise, way more than they were predicting.

You guys have even more snow than we do, which is just amazing for anywhere that isn't, say, New Hampshire or someplace like that. :)

Nic pics. The kids look cute on the windowsill and I loved the little snowman. I guess he got absorbed during the night. I also like the folded subspace one alot.

The kids are very photogenic, unlike me. They always seem to pose just so when the camera is on them.

I was sad when I saw this morning that the little snowman had disappeared overnight. Poor little guy, struggling all alone against the elements.

I love 'em! especially the ones with the flash that look all sepia-like

One of the sepia-like ones was just taken with the night setting on my camera. The other one (the first night picture) was enhanced a little so it wasn't just a dark blur. I'm glad you like the effect, I thought it came out pretty cool.

Excellent photo post! Thanks for sharing. Funny how you've got much more snow there than we've got here--that doesn't happen very often, does it? Glad you got out to play in it!
=D

This may be the only time EVER that we've had more snow than you. I think it was just an error in the snow delivery system. Something got mislabeled and we get to have a snow party!

OK, 20 inches of snow in one shot: I am officially impressed! (And also impressed with the sunrise shoveling -- and the cute cartop snowman.)

I think the sunrise shoveling was the result of being cranky over my plans being derailed and needing something to do to get it out of my system. But it really was quite beautiful, with the hush of morning overlaid by the hush of a heavy snow.

I wouldn't want to deal with snow like this very often, but it only happens once or twice a decade, really. So it's kind of a fun, novel break when it happens.

Lovely! That is a serious amount of snow, it looks like about the same as we have here.
