Since I slept all day, it was easy enough to stay awake for the hockey bronze medal game. Finland vs. Slovakia. There for a while it looked like Slovakia was going to get its first ever medal in a team sport. They were up 3-1 in the third period and then just lost focus for a few minutes. Finland took advantage, scored three times to get ahead, and then withstood the furious Slovakian rush the last five minutes of the game. Final score was Finland 5, Slovakia 3. Having no real investment in either team, and former Penguins on both teams, I was sort of rooting for Slovakia, first because they were behind when I tuned in at the beginning of the second period, and then because it would have meant so much to them. Even so, it was a fun game to watch. One more game to go - Canada vs USA to decide who takes home gold and who settles for silver. And then next week it's back to the NHL, where all the players I'm rooting for are on the same team!
