There's a new Med Express place, right across the street from my old doctor's office, which has in turn been turned into an urgent care office. Choices, choices! I chose med express just because that's what came up first in my google search.

I was in and out in under an hour (on a thurs evening, the place was completely empty), x-rays and all. Nothing broken -I would have been shocked if there was. The doc diagnosed it as a torn rotator cuff. I get to wear a sling thru the weekend (one-handed typing sucks) and if it isn't starting to feel better by then, I have a scrip for pt. I also have vicodin for bedtime, so hopefuly I'll get a little more sleep tonight.

Now I just have to figure out how to make this one size fits all sling actually fit me. Yay.

Yeah. Or more specifically, my really bad balance combined with ice skating.

Thanks. The level of general background achiness seems a little better today. :)

aw, sorry to hear that, kid. remember to do the excercises you PT tells you or it can be quite sore for a long time... this I can tell you.

I will keep that in mind. I don't particularly want this to drag out forever.

all that med equipment is really "one size fits most", *sigh* :(

We must acquire you some non-crap-rental hockey skates for when you get better.

Judicious application of safety pins has done wonders for that one size fits none problem.

I found a site with a detailed handout of exercises you can do:

Thanks for the link. Those seem like good exercises, both for next week and when it's more healed.

I have no problem with the concept of pt. Just with trying to figure out how to fit it in my budget. :(

Ouch! Hope you recover quickly--and that shopping isn't a hassle.

I probably just won't do much shopping, lol.

Oh dear! A torn rotator cuff is no joke! I'm glad you went to the doc. Hope you get better soon!

Thanks. It's always good to have someone confirm what's actually wrong, so you know you're providing the correct treatment (left to my own devices, I was rather inclined to keep stretching it,which would be bad).

Thanks. At least this provides a break from the monotonous routine of the past few months.

The monotonous routine of not having a torn rotator cuff? Of being able to type with ease?

Exactly! How boring was that convenient, painfree life?

LOL!
Here's hoping you find less painful ways to add excitement to your life in the near future!

Wait to do any exercises until the doc says to. You could just make it worse in the intial time. I would ask for PT even if they don't offer it after the first few days. It can't hurt you if you do it right and the PTs may know more about how to fix the injury than the doc.

Date: 2010-03-26 07:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com
I'll be sure to remember that. The doc was a little vague about timelines. I'll have to check with a pt about getting exercises, at some point, at the least. Probably can't actually afford pt sessions tho.

I think your insurance might pay for PT. It often does. At least go for one visit and get an exercise plan to do on your own.

Date: 2010-03-26 10:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com
well, that's the thing. I don't currently have insurance because it doesn't fit into my budget very well. I guess at this point I get to be creative with my bill paying and get the insurance thru work. If I do that now, it wil kick in next month and pt would be more of an option then.
