Well, I just got back from the New Line Cinema panel. Guess who was there?

David Wenham *bg* and Billy Boyd *vvbg* (squeeeee!). It was a lovely panel. There were some great extended edition scenes featuring Merry and Pippin, one of Faramir and Eowyn. There were lots of stories about the interviewing process that goes on for the extended edition. One such story focused on how the actors would tell these outrageous stories about each other, some true, some false and some in between. The story given as an example was with Dom and Viggo (of course). Dom is telling this story about how he called Viggo asking if he wanted to get together to go to the Oscars. Viggo said he couldn't cause he was busy. So Dom says, he finally found out that Viggo was at a jello party. He'd come up with some jello molds of an Oscar and he was demanding that everyone whip him with the jello Oscars and tell him that he was King. He went on to say that proof was needed of this, but that he could provide proof. Viggo, in his interview, laughed. Apparently, this did not get put into the extended edition so we were all very happy to see the video clip!

Billy told some very funny stories. Some one asked him what his favorite prank was and this is the story he told (forgive my failure of memory -- this is NOT word perfect). He and Dom were filming somewhere in the South Island and had decided to take a car and drive to the next location, about five hours away. They were given some script revisions before they went. They were going to film the first meeting between Merry and Pippin and Treebeard. So, the revised script said they would climb up Treebeard but then they would both fall down through the branches. As they did this, all of their clothing would be ripped off. When they got to the bottom, Pippin (I think) was supposed to wonder what had happened. Then Merry says "I'm cold. Hold me."

Another story involved Billy and Viggo. When Sean was filming the scene where Sam marries Rosie, Sam is supposed to look around at all his friends but no one was there during filming so Viggo grabbed Billy to go and make happy crowd noises. So, Billy says, Sean does several takes with them cheering in the background. Then, on the next take, Viggo turns to Billy and kisses him full on the lips. Billy says that he felt nauseous but also horny. But he was putting that to the back of his mind. And it was staying there.

His favorite scenes, he said, were the final scene at the Green Dragon, where they are having a drink, the first Green Dragon scene where they are having a drink and his "It comes in pints?" line. "Starting and ending with beer," he laughed.

He also told about one of his favorite RotK extended edition scenes, involving him looking for Merry on the Pelennor Field after the battle. Apparently, although it seems in the theatrical version that Pippin finds him very quickly, in the extended version, it apparently takes him all day, long after everyone else has left the field.

There were also snippets of scenes with Aragorn and Eowyn in the Houses of Healing, as well as a beautiful scene between Faramir and Eowyn in the Houses of Healing. David said this was done on his very first day of filming, but he and Miranda Otto had several years earlier, done a radio play together which involved them standing in a bathtub pretending to have sex. So he felt very comfortable with her.

So, they are both going to be giving autographs tomorrow at the New Line Cinema booth. They will be announcing the time first thing tomorrow. I'm hoping the time will be doable for me. The Lost panel is first thing and then there is the Farscape panel at two o'clock. I don't want to miss either of those but that autograph signing has got to be squeezed in somehow.

Well, I think that's all for now, but if I remember any more anecdotes I will update. Hopefully I'll have more stories tomorrow!

LMAO! This is great. Thanks so much for posting. Sounds like you had a terrific time, but then who wouldn't? Sounds just amazing. Love the Viggo/Billy kiss story.

There were so many great stories and my memory is so poor! It's hard to keep them all in order. I'm glad I was able to borrow a computer to get those things written down while they were still fresh :)

I think you did a wonderful job of giving us a taste of Comic Con and letting us know all of the LOTR important news and funny stories. Thank you!

Wish I'd had a chance to meet you yesterday! If you go back today, I hope you have a great time -- and be sure to tell us about it!

It would have been great to meet up. You did such a good write-up of the panel. I'm impressed with how much detail you got out of the scenes they showed!

Wow... It sounds amazing. Thanks for telling us about it! I'm so jealous though. Billy! If you go to the signing might you actually get to talk to him? *dies*

The EE sounds like heaven in a box - especially Pippin searching for Merry all day, and Sam seeing the star in Mordor. I just can't wait!

Hope you had a great holiday so far, and enjoy the rest of it! :)

It's so hard now to have to wait until December for the EE, isn't it? I want it now, I do!

I'm extremely jealous, you know that, right? I would give my eyeteeth to have the chance to go to ComicCon and to have the privilege of seeing the LotR panel ... well, I don't want to sound too insane, but I'd give a lot;-).

It sounds like it was a blast. Thanks so much for flaunting ... ahem, I mean sharing your great experience;-)!

The panel really was a lot of fun, but for my money, I have to say the Farscape panel was better (Ben and Claudia can't be beat!). I'll be getting all those thoughts up some time today :)

This sounds like a perfect way to spend the weekend! Can't wait to see those scenes. Do you know if they are going to have the cast commentary on the EE like FoTR and TT? Those were, to me, absolutely hysterical. I can just imagine some of the things they'd come out with this go round. Thank you for the wonderful report!

There was a bit of discussion about the recording of the commentaries so from that I'm assuming they will be on RotK EE. Apparently Billy and Dom did the commentary together again, but David Wenham had to do his alone. Rick Porras said that Orlando Bloom had to do his commentary alone as well, in a room the size of a phone booth, that had the air conditioner stuck on cold. Apparently he was sitting in the booth, wrapped in blankets, freezing but continuing to comment :)

I think those cast commentaries are the best thing about the DVDs (well, the interviews, behind the scenes stuff, commentaries, extended scenes, all of them are the best thing about EE. Too many best things to choose from...lol).

Oh, I know what you mean! I actually followed your report - and Shirebound's - all weekend and felt like I was really there. Whatever would we fans do without cons? I'm starting the countdown to my own fave, the one I haven't missed in years - Dragon*Con over the Labor Day weekend. I know Sala Baker and John Noble are slated to be there, but I can dream, can't I, that Billy and Dom and David are so smitten by the Con bug that they'll call the organizers and volunteer to come? It IS supposed to be The Be All and End All of SFF cons. It could happen, right?

The commentary on TTT toward the end just cracked me up. The part where Dom said something about taking the opportunity say how honored he felt to be sitting there beside Billy and Billy said "You won't be for long." And then Dom said "I love you." And Billy said "I love you, too." My sons could NOT understand why their mother fell out of her chair laughing. They just thought Billy and Dom were being stupid 'cause, like, EEW!!! But with all the innuendo, I nearly wet my pants. :-)

Looking forward to more of that kind of fun.

Oh, how I ramble...I'll shut up now.

LMAO...poor boys, it's hard to understand these things, sometimes.

I wish I could go to Dragon Con. You'll have to do the con reporting for that one :) Turns out I spoke to Sala Baker on Sat. and didn't even realize it until too late to tell him what a great job he did. I stopped by the Ringers booth and they were just getting ready to do a drawing. There was a very friendly fellow sitting there who said hello to me as I looked at their stuff, so I smiled and said hello back. Then I moved on and asked for a ticket from someone, walked around for a little, came back for the drawing and realized that the very friendly fellow was Sala Baker! *smacks self in forehead* Oh well, can't win them all.

I also missed meeting several of the Farscape people due to being in line for my Billy autograph when Ben and Claudia showed up at the watchFarscape booth. They apparently hung out there for about fifteen or twenty minutes before their panel on Saturday. *sigh*
