a monster manual?
Jun. 12th, 2010 01:58 pmMy sister
ani_no_mouse is doing some research on "children's and adults' beliefs about fantasy" and she is looking for some input. Her words:
In my present paper I am trying to make the claim that adults generally assume that fantasy figures have supernatural abilities or traits. One problem with this argument for me is that a) I think of monsters as fitting within a category of fantasy figures, but b) I can't think of any supernatural abilities that I think they possess. So, I hope that some of my fantastic friends can help me with this. What do you think the characteristics of monsters are (i.e., how would you describe a prototypical monster?); what supernatural characteristics do they have (i.e., abilities that are inconsistent with the natural laws governing human or non-human animal life?)
Please go to her Monsters post and tell her what you think about monsters and their supernatural abilities.
