I decided my Christmas present to myself this year would be to update the decor in the bathroom a little bit. I took a leap of faith with the shower curtain - the matching hooks were super cute but there was no image of the curtain itself. It's mod dots and whales, so I think it will be okay. I also got a fairly generic, not quite matching, liner, some simple but cute hooks that should coordinate with the shower curtain (not the actual matching whale ones, because I think that would have been a bit much), and a bath mat that should also hopefully coordinate.

I don't actually have a shower curtain now, just a liner, which is hideously dark red (a remnant from when I lived in an apartment with an ugly bathroom tiled in pink/black that I did my best to coordinate with), shredded by Mal when he was a bit younger, and pretty well soap scummed. My bathmat was irrevocably soiled by Tookie in her final months and never got replaced. Even if the new things don't coordinate as well as I hope they will, they will be a huge improvement on what I currently have.

I also attempted shoe shopping today, since all of my good fall/winter walking shoes have fallen apart. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything I liked in any sort of reasonable price range at the local independent store. So next weekend it will be off to find something cheap but functional at one of the chain stores.

I was hoping to see Harry Potter this weekend, as well. Until I remembered that the local theater that got the popular Hollywood blockbuster type movies had closed down, leaving us only with the crappy theater (as in, tiny screens, uncomfortable/old seats, bad sound) that has a selection of arty/indie/foreign films that I'm never even remotely interested in. Almost a guarantee they won't be getting Harry Potter. Maybe I'll do my shopping in the Southside next weekend, and catch it there.

I need shoes too, but haven't done much about it. Hope you find some that you like!

Also, I'd like to see HP, but want to wait till all the screaming kids have had their fill. I'm sure it'll be in theaters for a few weeks at least.

Good luck with the "new" bathroom!
=D

That was the nice thing about the Squirrel Hill theater. It never got all that crowded, especially the matinee shows, even on opening weekends. Probably why it closed, sadly.

I can't wait to see everything together and find out if it all works or if I'll have to send half of it back and try again, lol.

I am looking forward to seeing your newly redecorated bathroom!

Harry Potter has opened here (just about the only movies we get here are the blockbusters.) I thought about going to see it this weekend, but I don't really feel comfortable leaving Mlle Daisie at Sandy's unsupervised mercy for that long. Maybe mid-week after the pets have all got used to it, and the teenage crowd has all had a chance to see it (2 or 3 times) I will find a day to see it.

Of course, in that previous post, I meant I'd maybe see HP later this week after the pets have gotten use to EACH OTHER not to HP. But who knows, maybe they are psychically watching it even as I type this. I've always suspected that dog brains work in exceedingly mysterious ways.

Knowing that someone other than me was going to be using the bathroom was a big push for redecorating it. Now, if I could just get the rest of the apartment arranged and decorated, it might start feeling more like Home and less like The Place Where I'm Currently Dwelling.

I've let the house where I live (and make monthly mortgage payments) look like "the place where I currently live" instead of "home" for five years now, despite the fact that the previous owners had really strange decorating ideas. I think the problem is that most of the time I'm pretty oblivious to my surroundings. Now I'm telling myself that if I get tenure I will spruce it up in a way that matches my own decorating tastes - whatever they are. If I don't get tenure I will have to spruce it up in some non-despcript way to have a hope of selling it!

Good luck with the new bathroom decor. I got a new shower curtain about a month ago, and it is already showing signs of scum buildup. Yick.

I have tried to interest DH in going to see HP, but he didn't want to this weekend. I made a rash promise a while back to wait and see it with him, but he is trying my patience now that the movie is actually in theaters. I'll give him another few days and then will probably go by myself to a daytime showing.

Good luck with the shoe-shopping too!

Good luck getting out to see HP, with or without your DH. :)

I hope the BR stuff works out and that you have success with the shoes. I need to work on both things too--it must be going around-haha.
I throw my shower curtain liner is the washer with some rags and some bleach about once a year whether it needs it or not. Of course it always needs it. The problem then is hanging it up to dry. Fortunately I have a washtub by my washing machine and it rig it up there till it drips off.

That's a good suggestion, I'll keep it in mind for the new one.

The bathroom project sounds very fun. I got some new stuff for my bathroom last month (one of my birthday presents to myself - it was a sort of out of control month). So I have a corner shower caddy that holds most of my shampoo, body wash, etc, and a new shower curtain with pockets, which holds the rest. I was REALLY tired of knocking things off the side of the tub and the back of the toilet all the time, and I am reveling in the change.

Good luck with seeing HP and finding new shoes. I haven't found shoes I actually like in years, but I suspect that's just because I don't bother to spend the time seriously looking for them.

I don't much like the shoe styles going 'round these days, but I'm sure I'll find something that works for the winter. As for Harry Potter, eh. If I see it, great, if not it won't be all that terrible.
