My new laptop came with a webcam and Skype. I got the thing in August and promised myself that I'd get signed up and start using it soon. Well, it only took three months to follow through on that plan. I now have a Skype account and this morning, [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl and I had a lovely video chat. While we were chatting, one of her friends called and we had a little three-way conversation through the speaker phone function on her Droid. Technology today!

In other news, my bathroom in a box arrived on Wednesday. I got my new shower curtain up this morning. The stuff that I selected was in a children's collection because apparently I really am a five-year-old at heart. But it's whimsical and cute, and I like it. It doesn't quite match the bath mat I picked out, but I don't really care. My bathroom is much brighter and happier than it was a day ago.

Glad you are enjoying your new bathroom and the toys that came with your new laptop. Eventually I am going to have to get with the times and do the whole webcam/Skype thing. But I think that is another decision that can be put off until I know what my employment prospects are for the next few years.

I don't know how often I'll use it - I'm not really keen on the litle box showing me, inside the big box showing who I'm talking with. I find it a bit disconcerting, watching myself like that.

Whimsical and cute is nice. My bathroom is purple and even has some pink items (two of my pictures). It's very girly too. :)

I too have a web cam and skype but I've never tried eiter.

Only a few of the people I talk with frequently are actually on Skype, so I probably won't use it much, but if some of my more distant (physically) family members get on, it will be a nice way to keep in closer touch with them.

I don't see Skype in my future any time soon. I have very little desire for people to see what I look like when I'm hanging around my apartment alone, for one thing. For the other, I just wrote a whole post about being in technology overload. Getting a webcam and figuring out Skype is gonna have to wait until I've recovered from the camcorder, conversion software, and GPS experiences.

I had the same thought. That's one of the reasons I didn't jump on it immediately, lol.

I had no idea you could buy a bathroom in a box!
Sounds like you had fun.

Lol. It would be an interesting marketing concept. Sink, toilet and tub in one neat little box. All it needs is one zap with your Super Grow Ray Gun and you're set to go!

Sadly, my bathroom in a box only contained a bath mat, shower curtain, liner and rings. Still pretty fun, though.

Glad you like the new bathroom. Whimsical is one of my favorite themes.

I have been meaning to get signed up for Skype for some time. Actually, I created an account when T was student teaching in England - doubt if it's still there, though, and it was on a different computer, too. But so often, a previous account seems to raise obstacles to starting a new one, and the worry about it has been enough of a deterrent to keep me from trying. Technology r not us, these days. It took me a day and a half to set up Dad's new Tracfone, lol.

I don't know how long I'll keep using the shower curtain, to be honest. I like the overall pattern, but it's a little too short and I don't like the whales along the bottom as much as I hoped I would.

The good thing is, there are hundreds of designs out there, and shower curtains aren't that expensive, so you can always get a different one.

My laptop came with a webcam, but I have no idea how to use it. I'm about six years behind all this new-tech stuff.

My aunt called me on Skype yesterday and after we talked, we both spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out how to disconnect the call. It was not at all obvious. I love technology, but I don't really get it, most of the time.

My laptop also had a webcam and I got Skype some months ago. We can talk and I don't care what you look like if you don't care what I look like. Since mostly only my head shows I am not overly worried about it. I am used to bad hair days--LOL

Glad the BR in a box was good. It sounds terrific.

I've been a bit reassured by the fact that for the most part, only my head and shoulders show in the picture, so if I'm lazing around in my pjs, it won't be super obvious, lol.
