So the plan was to feel better today. Stupid plan.

I decided to take the day off and see if lounging around in bed all day would be more effective than ignoring the misery and toting kids around all day. So far so good, as I'm feeling slightly better than when I woke up this morning, had a nice long nap midday, and have spent the afternoon reading "The Eyre Affair," by Jasper Fforde.

In exchange for medicating my roommate's cat, she has given me gift cards for two free movie rentals from Blockbuster. I thought I would use at least one of them on a movie from my 'must see' list, but then realized I don't remember much of what was on my 'must see' list.

Movies I Haven't Seen:

Silence of the Lambs
Sneakers
Shaun of the Dead

There were a ton more that I have since forgot. Any other suggestions? Note, these are not necessarily movies I want to see, but movies that people are constantly making reference to that I have no idea what they are talking about.

Right, well, I've been out of bed for about five minutes now and the aches are gathering again. Time to retreat.

Poor baby! I hope you start feeling better soon.

I'm working my way through "The Eyre Affair", too. Let me know what you think! I'm more than halfway finished and I think it's *very* clever, but for some reason I'm just straggling through it without too much enthusiasm.

I'm enjoying 'The Eyre Affair' although I wish I could remember more about "Jane Eyre", which I haven't read in many years. The book was recommended to me by one of my sisters and is making for good reading. The only problem I have with it so far is the general lack of tension. Thursday's Aunt Polly is trapped in the Prose Portal and there should be doubt about whether she will ever get freed or Uncle Mycroft get possession of the Portal back. However, seeing as both of them are quoted in the little blurbs at the beginning of each chapter, it really destroys any tension from the idea that their future is in jeopardy. The basic plot is fun though and it's basically well-written although Fforde consistently misuses the word 'onto', a positional term meaning on top of, instead of the phrase 'on to' which is more progressional, moving from one thing to the next. It's such a minor quibble, but it pulls me out of the story every time I come across it.

Thanks for your get well wishes, I seem to feel better as long as spend most of my time in bed. I get up for a few minutes and then the aches start up again and I have to go back to bed for an hour or so, lol.

*hugs*

Maybe that's it! I find myself not really caring if these folks are in jeopardy, because it's obvious that everything will work out.

It's almost like watching an old episode of a TV show. You know that the characters go on to have other adventures in the next episode so the danger to them loses it's potency and the only reason to watch is that you like the characters. It makes for enjoyable but not terribly spell-binding reading.

Well, if you want to feel *better* I would NOT suggest watching Silence of the Lambs. That still scares the bejeebers out of me. Brilliant movie, but quite horrific.

For pure feel good, I would rec "Always" - Stephen Spielberg's remake of "A Guy Named Joe" - which is also a wonderful movie in its own right. "Always" is pure romance, fun, angst, awww-inspiring and too much wonderfulness to express properly here. Stars Richard Dreyfus, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, and the hunk whose name I can never remember but HE IS A HUNK! You'll thank me if you rent it, I promise. I think it was made in 1990 or somewhere around there. I could watch it over and over and over...come to think of it, after I go see Finding Neverland I may have to go find that movie myself.

Hope you feel better, sweets. Mark my words, you get this movie, you WILL feel better. (((hugs you better))

I really have very little interest in Silence of the Lambs, but the comic geeks make reference to it all the time and I would like to know the code, if you know what I mean. "Always" sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out.

I know you gave me a Troll Slayer poke in some comment somewhere, so I'll answer that here, as well. I'm working on it, sort of, and I'll try to get it down on the computer this weekend. :)

*hugs you back*

That's right, you and [livejournal.com profile] rabbitchild were deep in discussions of Lost while I was being castigated for having failed to see, apparently, nearly every good movie made in the latter half of the twentieth century. I have a lot of work to do to catch up, lol.

I really require a syllabus. You know, start with Silence of the Lambs and work my way down to whatever is on the bottom of the list, with lecture notes, cues as to what I should pay special attention to, and a study guide for the popquiz to be administered next week.

Sorry to hear that you're under the weather "sends healthy vibes and get well wishes*. Have you watched Pirates of the Caribbean? It is definitely a "feel better" movie - Johnny Depp is the most amazing ever!

Silence of the Lambs is definitely NOT on my must see list, and I'm sure I'll see Shaun of the Dead with my dear boy one of these days, but I would have sworn that you and I watched Sneakers way back when it first came out on video. Robert Redford, River Phoenix, Sidney Poitier - ringin' any bells?

Love your Hurley icon!

Feel better!

I actually own Pirates of the Caribbean, so I can scratch that right off the list of Movies I Haven't Seen. It was a good suggestion, though.

I don't really want to see Silence of the Lambs, but everyone in the comics group makes constant reference to it and I'd like to know what they are talking about so I may have to suck it up and see it anyway. Not this weekend though, I don't think. It's more a movie that I would want to see with friends rather than alone when I'm not feeling well.

As for Sneakers, if we did see it, it clearly didn't make a big enough impression on me, because I really don't remember it. Maybe if I watch it, I'll remember it more.

Thanks for your well-wishes and I hope you have a great weekend with Mom.

*hugs*

The only movie of those three that I've seen was Silence of the Lambs, and I'm never watching it again. I only saw it in the first place because I was taking a film class. I'm the biggest wimp - I avoid scary movies at all cost!

I hope you feel better soon!!

I hate scary movies too, so I'm putting that at the bottom of the list, as something to be seen with friends, when I'm not feeling quite so crappy as I am now. :)

(((Meesh)))) I hope you can keep resting and that you start feeling better soon!

Of those three, I'd watch Silence of the Lambs - it's a fantastic movie. My mind always goes blank when I'm trying to think of movies to recommend, so I probably won't be any help. But if you haven't seen Eternal Sunshine, then that would be a good thing to rent. I'm sure you've probably seen that though :)

I have seen Eternal Sunshine and I agree that it's a great movie. I think I'm going to wait on Silence of the Lambs until I'm feeling a bit better, but it's definitely on the list of movies to see.
