An experiment in cooking

I tried curried chickpeas and vegetables tonight. It's a work in progress, I'd say. Not bad, exactly, but not nearly as yummy as it should be. I'll have to try again in a few weeks. One of these days I'm going to stumble across a recipe that actually turns out well.

Cooking is one of those "mad scientist" things - sometimes you end up with a gourmet delight but more often it is a Frankenstein result - not exactly what you expected and maybe a bit hard to swallow! The important thing is to keep trying. Edison discovered 1,000 ways NOT to make a light bulb before one lit up, right?

I have luckily had very few experiments go so awry that they weren't edible. They usually just end up being a bit too bland and boring.

I always forget to write down my notes on how the dish turned out, and I repeat the same old mistakes over again. I hope your next attempt is more successful.

Two main problems with this dish were that I was using old veg. oil that seems to have gone a bit nasty, and I forgot to buy one of the flavoring-type ingredients. Both of those are pretty easy to avoid next time, hopefully, lol.

Hmm! I hope the cooking progresses. I make some things that aren't quite as yummy as I would hope also. Sometimes I make them repeatedly because I have not idea how to make it better.
My idea of cooking is to take a recipe or a number of similar ones and use what ingredients I have on hand. I may make something pretty much according to instructions the first time but from then on I seldom do. Of course cakes, cookies etc are pretty much according to the recipe but main dishes I tend to play around with.

I once dated a guy who very seriously believed that you could never ever deviate even the slightest from the written recipe. Half the time I'm not even working from a recipe, just throwing random stuff in a pot and hoping it works. There's probably some middle ground in there that works best.

The thing about having to eat every day is that it gives us plenty of opportunity to keep experimenting with food prep!

Hm, I haven't been able to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
