Apr. 11th, 2011 09:21 amAnother weekend that flew by.
I went in to work for a few hours on Saturday, to do some work on the room while there were no children in it. I tore up a cheap photo album and taped one sleeve down on each toy shelf. Now we can slide pictures of the toys in and out easily as we rotate the toys. I've been wanting to try this for some years and just never got around to it. I also rearranged some of the furniture to hopefully facilitate better, more focused play from the kids. Our block corner was tiny and if one child was sitting in front of a shelf playing with blocks, no one else could get to any of the other toys on the shelf. There was much crying and anger in that corner.
The rest of the weekend was about as lazy as you could possibly imagine, which was exactly what I needed this weekend. Yesterday I spent the whole day watching/following hockey games. I have an irrational but long-standing dislike of Chicago (dating back well before they won the Cup last year) so I was a little disappointed that Dallas failed to bump them out of the final playoff spot in the west. This means Chicago will be paired up with Vancouver, a team that I have an equally irrational and long-standing fondness for, again (I think they end up facing each other in the playoffs every year). So far, this match-up has never ended well for the Canucks. I'm hoping Luongo shows up this off-season and beats the pants off the Blackhawks!
The Pens had a game too. It didn't have much riding on it - the Pens' playoff spot was cemented on Saturday when the Flyers refused to fold against the Islanders. Half the Pens roster was being rested and it was interesting to see the Pitts-Barre Scranton Pens on the ice again. They did well, got lots of goals, managed to hold onto the number one penalty kill in the league (first time ever that the Pens held that honor) despite being not so hot on the pk, and ended the regular season with a four game win streak.
No indication yet on when or if Crosby will be back. I'll be looking to see him move on to the next step in his recovery this week and join the team for full practices. If that happens, we may see him at some point in the second round (provided the Pens take proper advantage of home ice and win the first round). I'm torn because I really don't want him to come back unless he's truly 100% recovered. No sense risking the chance of taking a bad hit and scrambling his brains back up and possibly ruining his career, not just one season. On the other hand, it would be so sweet to see him back on the ice, kicking butt and taking names. That will happen when it happens, though. And the boys are playing some pretty decent hockey without him. It's been fun to watch.

Date: 2011-04-11 03:40 pm (UTC)Glad to hear that the Pens (Pitts-barre Scranton or otherwise) managed to secure a playoff slot. Hope they manage to make the most (or at least a respectable showing) of it!

Date: 2011-04-11 06:31 pm (UTC)Glad you've been enjoying hockey. I'm looking forward to the playoffs even though I won't be able to watch any Caps games unless and until they get to the Conference finals. Which, if they go true to form they'll be long out of it by then. I will be able to watch Flyers-Sabres or Pens-Bolts games, so it won't be a total hockey void for the next little while, but it would be nice to get to watch my team before their share of this year's playoffs airs on NHL classics in August.
