auntiemeesh: (running)

I've been telling myself I should go for a run in the park ever since the weather first started to turn a month or two ago. I finally took my own advice today. I took the short path through the park and made it two-thirds of the way up the long hill before my lungs gave out. I thought my legs felt fine until I slowed to a walk and realized just how rubbery they were. It took a very long time to get my breath back so I ended up walking the whole way home. Boo. But it's been seven months and I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. Now I just need to start building back up again.

Love the new layout. I'm still trying to find "the" picture for my layout's background. Once I decide on it, I'll have to ask your indulgence in telling me how to do this once again, because I didn't have the sense to save to a Word document the last time and I have no idea how to go about finding it again.

Glad you got your run in - I took a walk around the development the other day and my feet were all swollen by the time I got home. I think I'm in for a long and painful process when I finally get serious about fitness again.

I'll do my best to help you with your layout whenever you find your picture. The only downside is that I have to use the old, no longer supported S1 system for it.

You can do it. So far, after a very long time away from exercise, I have made it through two months of aerobics at the local gym. I'm just now getting the nerve up to try a bit of running. It feels good to be this far along but I've got a long way to go.

I'm going to be sore tomorrow. I made it home and flopped to the floor because I was mostly dead. But I really enjoy running, so I'm glad I made myself start up again.

Most of the time I don't, either, which is why it's been seven months, lol.

Good for you for getting out there and putting in those first painful strides. You'll be back in shape in no time (with steady practice).

That whole 'steady practice' thing is what always gets me. I'm not at all keen on getting up at the crack of dawn for a solitary run through the park, but by the time I get home from work, I'm usually too tired and hungry to even consider it. So it looks like the occasional weekend is probably going to be all there is, for now.

I'm really not good at making myself exercise after work either - in fact, I never do it at all (except to the extent that yard work counts as exercise). In previous years I've been surprisingly good at pushing myself to get up way before dawn to accommodate exercise, but that (like so much else) has fallen by the wayside this year. So all my clothes are increasingly coming to fit as women's clothes are supposed to fit. This is not a good thing in my book.

Congrats on your first run of the season. My fitness motto is definitely one day at a time.

Good for you! Keep at it as it only gets harder to get into it the older you get.

Good for you for getting started again! The first step(s) are always the hardest.
