Round One: Mal 0, Meesh 1

About 8:30 (two hours after his after school snack) Mal started getting very yowly and started biting at my arm. I ignored him for a few minutes, then when he started getting even more snippy, off to the box he went. He was pretty pissed but settled down very quickly and when I opened to door after a couple minutes, he just stayed where he was.

A few minutes later, he started up again, but when I didn't seem impressed, he wandered off to sulk. Finally ended up getting all sweet and purry with me before settling down for a little nap. When I finally did decide to feed them, around ten, he took his own sweet time heading into the kitchen, lol. He's a smart boy, my Mal.

Congratulations on winning round one. Good luck in future bouts because Mal sounds as if he's got staying power. Keep your guard up.

All three cats let me know last night that I was in the doghouse with them. They usually all sleep with me, but last night, I slept alone for the first time in about two years. Any time I feel like giving in, though, all I have to do is look at Mal's exceedingly round tummy and I get a second wind. He doesn't stand a chance.

Good for you! Never undersetimate the effectiveness of time-out as a disciplinary tactic with cats!

It really is surprisingly effective with my furkids, much moreso than with the average toddler, for instance.

Was he playing hard to get when you did feed them?

He certainly was. And that's not the best part. Mal and Zoe both sleep on my bed every night. But that night, I went to bed alone and stayed alone all night long. Neither my cats nor Maggie came to join me at any point. I finally got up to look for them and they were all still in the living room, exactly where I had left them, and they all looked up at me with identical expressions and then returned to their snoozes. They didn't relent until after breakfast the next day, lol.
