Sad day...

I spent my lunch break at a funeral home. Our payroll manager lost her husband to acute leukemia after almost fifty years of marriage. He'd been sick for over a year and in the hospital for the past three months or so, so it wasn't a shock, but it's still so sad. And then, at the end of the day, I found out that one of the maintenance guys that used to work at our place about a year and a half ago, a very personable middle-aged guy who only spoke a little English (he was Russian) was found dead in his apartment on Friday. Apparently, he was only found after several days because neighbors noticed the smell. So far there's no word on the cause of death and it turns out no one knows his real name because he used a series of aliases. I think he hid a lot of things, but he seemed like a decent guy and he died alone. It just doesn't feel right.

That does sound like a very sad day. Even if someone's been sick for months, their death is still hard. And the story about the maintenance guy dying alone and truly unknown is just everyone's worst nightmare. It's nice to know that even though he died alone, there were people (like you) who care that it happened.
