Just got back from seeing Sin City. In attendence were [livejournal.com profile] mamoulian and his wife, [livejournal.com profile] apb_age, [livejournal.com profile] pumpkinescobar, [livejournal.com profile] panthera_onca and [livejournal.com profile] cajun.

I'd been warned that it was very graphically gory, so had all sorts of expectations. However, most of the graphic goriness was very comic-bookish so it didn't bother me at all.

Very good movie. The acting was, as [livejournal.com profile] pumpkinescobar said, campy. It took a few minutes to get into the film noir voice overs and the over the top acting, but it was worth it. I thought there was an interesting distinction between hero and monster in the movie. Everyone kills, and even the 'good guys' do a fairish amount of torturing and maiming along with the killing. The main thing that differentiates them is who and why. The good guys are all protecting or avenging a woman, and the monsters are all torturing, killing and occasionally eating women. It's a pretty clear-cut line.

I loved the way all the threads, which seemed entirely disparate at first, wove together to present a whole picture.

Several of us thought that Alexis Bledel, who plays Becky in the movie, looked familiar. Turns out she is Rory on Gilmore Girls (which I've seen all of once) and she played the main girl in Tuck Everlasting. She was also in Bride and Prejudice. Girl gets around.

Glad to hear a positive review on this one. I want to see it, but other posts made me wonder. I will probably go later this week. I love comic book art and comic books in general. I was a very big fan of HBO's Spawn series and that was violent, but it was so well done. The last comic character film that had a comic look was Dick Tracy and I loved that too.

I'd forgotten all about Dick Tracy. I didn't really love that, but it did have the comic feel to it. I think this is a better movie.

Yeah, I liked it too. But now I have no idea where I know Alexis Bledel from! She seemed so familiar to me, but I've never seen anything she's listed as being in. I would have sworn she was Judith from Joan of Arcadia, but it turns out that's someone else. I'm stymied.

Damn, she DOES have the biggest blue eyes! No wonder they chose to keep them for the movie. ;)

So who does play Judith from Joan of Arcadia?
