Apr. 17th, 2012 11:33 pmThe Penguins had a bad day on Sunday. For the third game in a row, they started out strong, took an early lead on the Flyers, lost all sense of how to play team defense and lost the game. Only difference was, this time they also completely melted down and had a team-wide, game long temper tantrum to go along with the loss. It was so painful to watch, because that is not the team that I love. I really hope they got all that out of their systems. Best case scenario is that having that complete meltdown allows them to refocus, realize that they need to get back to what makes them a great hockey team, and they win tomorrow's game. This is a tall order, however, especially since not one, not two, but three players (at least two of whom are good, solid guys) are suspended for tomorrow's game. Adams and Neal would come back for game five if the Pens manage to get a win tomorrow. Asham is gone for four games. Good riddance, in my opinion. I wasn't a huge fan of him to begin with and this is his second suspension for fairly reprehensible play this season. Adams and Neal will be missed a lot, especially since Neal (a 40 goal scorer who got two goals on Sunday) will be replaced by Eric Tangradi (a 0 goal scorer at the NHL level).
Oh well, they're my team and one temper tantrum isn't enough to change that. I'm disappointed in their behavior last Sunday, and completely baffled by their inexplicably bad play for the past few games, but I'll still throw on my Penguins t-shirt tomorrow, still listen to the game, still cheer them on (as long as they're not trying to maim anyone).
Go Pens!
In related news, Marion Hossa got carted off the ice on a stretcher in the first period of the Chicago game tonight, after taking a shoulder to the face. He's a bit hated still in Pittsburgh by a lot of fans (hell hath no fury like a fan scorned), but you never want to see that happen to anyone!
It's been a rough playoffs and we're only three or four games into the first round. I can't imagine how it's going to be from here on out.

Date: 2012-04-18 05:25 pm (UTC)I like your description of a temper tantrum; that's pretty spot-on. You have plenty of experience in dealing with the three-year-old who is throwing a fit in the middle of the room :)
