I'm going to have to give up road trips, they're too stressful! Yesterday I was just anxious because I have a metric ton of stuff to get done and no time to do it and instead I was spending the weekend on a road trip. Today I was just mostly in fear for my life.

We encountered a herd of stampeding Wildebeests, disguised as young men in garishly decked out, souped up, low-slung Hondas (six in total, as far as I could tell). These ridiculous children were drag racing on the turnpike. They would line up beside each other, blocking both lanes and going very slow to build up a nice empty highway in front of them, then take off. The second or third time they passed us while doing this, one of the drivers failed to properly judge his speed as he came back into traffic and actually rear-ended his racing buddy. Since this happened about two car-lengths in front of us, at speed on the highway, I'm very glad it was just a little tap and didn't turn into a full force accident. It was stressful enough as it was. Since we kept passing them and getting passed by them the entire four hours of the trip, it was a little stressful. Add to that the fact that there were a lot of tractor-trailers (which routinely scare the bejeebus out of me, just on principle) and I spent most of the trip in a high state of anxiety.

But now I'm home! I've got the laundry started and at some point this evening I'll pull out some random boxes of stuff that never got unpacked when I moved in here five years ago and sort out what I really want to keep and what is disposable.

Welcome home! Yikes, I've never experienced anything like that on the highway before. I don't think I could have kept driving with the young beasties on the road with me. I suspect my reaction would have been to call 911 after the second performance and ask if there was anything the police could do to stop them, since it sounds incredibly dangerous.

Yeah, we did call 911, got transferred to the State Police, and reported them. But we didn't have license numbers or anything, just vague descriptions - Hondas with neon colored wheel rims. The State police made note of it, but probably couldn't do anything with that level of info.

Well, I'm just glad you made it home safely in spite of their best efforts.

Yes, I was thinking that was exactly what someone should have done.

Scary indeed! I once got stuck between two tractor trailers that got their jollies by scaring the crap out of me--squeezing me between them, and giving me no possible way out. Jerks, all.

Glad you made it back safely!

Going out on the roads is always a big adventure, isn't it?

I am sorry you had such a hair raising experience. Good luck with unpacking and repacking.

Ugh, that sounds awful! What a-holes. And it's not like the weather was anything good yesterday either! I too was on the turnpike and it was bleary and rainy, ugh ugh ugh. I hate jerks like that. Their carelessness if carried through to the worst case will affect more lives than their own short and idiotic ones. I would say I'm irrationally angry but actually I think this anger is perfectly rational.

We got an early enough start that the rain didn't hit until we were past Somerset, so at least the idiots were drag racing on dry roads. And after they had their mini-collision, they did settle down somewhat.

Glad you survived the excessively exciting drive home! Hope the work week/packing week goes as well as possible!

The work week is progressing as it should, it being already the end of Wednesday. The packing is going non-existently, but I have sorted through some stuff and thrown a couple trash bags worth of stuff away, so I'm moving in the right direction.
