Jun. 29th, 2012 07:42 pmI took off work yesterday and today to burn off some vacation days before I lose them at the end of the summer.
Yesterday I made the mistake of spending most of the day at home in the sweltering apartment. I am occasionally surprised to not see things spontaneously bursting into flames. In spite of that, it was a pretty good day.
Got up early and went to the gym, putzed around in Squirrel Hill for a little while and got my hair cut, then spent the rest of the day relaxing at home.
eve11 came over after work and we had a Sherlock S2 viewing party. Much fun was had.
Last night was abysmally hot but I was exhausted from being an insomniac the previous three or four nights, so I got a good five hours of sleep anyway.
Zoe, beloved though she is, decided to wake me at 6am for breakfast this morning. She can't possibly think I will continue to love and cherish her if she does such horrible things to me. I fed her anyway, and went back to bed for a few hours. But the heat finally drove me out of the bedroom downstairs.
LP and I went out midmorning to take care of errands. I finally got my summer water play shoes - a pair of shockingly purple Keen's in a child's size 3, pretty much the only pair in the store that fit me, but it's okay because I like purple.
I also spent almost two hundred dollars at the bra store. Seriously. Three bras for almost two hundred dollars. *sigh* And then we broke down and bought an air conditioner. One of those free-standing 'portable' ones. We initially thought we'd put it in my room and use it to cool off the whole upstairs, but this apartment is too hot (the downstairs, which is much cooler than the upstairs, is registering at over 90 on the thermostat) and the machine isn't powerful enough to do that, so we closed my door. It's been plugged in for several hours now and the temp in my room is all the way down to 88 degrees. Sadly, LP's room is probably close to 100. It may take a good long while to cool things off enough to make any difference in the other rooms.
And now, apparently, we're in for a heck of a storm. It's only 7:30 and it's almost completely dark outside. Lightning is flashing and thunder is rumbling. I really hope the power doesn't go out. *crosses fingers*

Date: 2012-06-30 03:48 pm (UTC)Today I'll have to put the AC on before it's 100 degrees inside, and maybe it will be more effective.

Date: 2012-06-30 12:29 pm (UTC)Bras are impossible. I can't find my size anywhere around here, as I know you couldn't, but to pay that kind of money for one (or three) is outrageous! Men have no idea how easy they have it!
=D

Date: 2012-06-30 01:28 pm (UTC)How do cats manage the heat? I suspect Zoe will enjoy your new air conditioner as much as you do.

Date: 2012-07-01 01:32 am (UTC)glad to surmise that you did not get the really bad storms that were experienced elsewhere. We hardly had anything--not enough to really water my newly planted flowers etc.

Date: 2012-07-01 01:42 am (UTC)That's exactly what I did today. As soon as it started to heat up outside, I took the fan out of the window and plugged the AC in. Hopefully it will cool off soon and I can put the fan back in, since I really prefer that.
The trees a street or two up were really thrashing around yesterday afternoon/evening, and we got some pretty vivid lightning, but none of it was too terribly close. We did get a bit of rain, but not a ton.
