I've successfully enrolled myself in a healthcare plan, found a pcp, and made an appointment for myself. Of course, I had about ten minutes to go through the list of providers (book length) and call around to find one located relatively close to me who was accepting new patients. This pretty much equated to picking a name out of a hat. The first name I called was accepting new patients and had an office in Oakland, which is close enough that I can get there without spending hours on public transportation. Yay! I know nothing about the doctor other than that he exists, so it remains to be seen if he'll actually be my pcp after the first visit, but it gave me a name to put on the application form.

And it seems I've successfully made it to Friday, thanks in large part to lyda_pearl. I've got a lovely cold and I've been exhausted all week, so she has taken pity on me and has been driving me back and forth between home and work. Only eight more work hours and I can have a weekend. I'll probably just sleep most of the weekend but I do have lunch plans with a friend on Sunday to look forward to.

I've been dosing up on nyquil and dayquil, so I do feel at least marginally better today. Hopefully this is a trend.

I'm glad you now have a health plan. Sorry that you also have a cold. So do I and everyone I know up here, but the company doesn't really diminish the misery of the situation. I am looking forward to sleeping until it is light tomorrow, and hope that Sandy does require me to get up too many times to go outside in the dark and the cold.

When are you leaving for Chicago? I've been wondering if I could get to Pgh some time Tues evening to see you before you go. It seems a shame for both of us to have time off from work and not see each other at all.

Our departure date for Chicago is a little bit up in the air, but at this point, I'm guessing it won't be until Thursday afternoon/evening at the earliest. Of course, things may change again, but I should be here for at least part of Thanksgiving Day.
