It was a bit adventurous getting home tonight. What I learned on my walk this evening was trifold. 1) The sidewalk going up Hazelwood and over Bigelow is always going to be icy, cold and the windiest part of my walk. 2) I will almost certainly be bypassing Christmas Way and going the long way round when there is any ice on the ground - I gave it one little try and said 'oh hell no.' 3) My Merrills have done good service since I got them (except that time when they gave me a new blister on top of the old every single day for a month straight) but they are getting put away today. They don't handle wet surfaces well, let alone wet/slushy/icy surfaces. So, time to find a pair of sturdy hikers for the winter.

However, I made it safely home and thus have successfully started my holidays. Yay!!!!! No more work until January 2. *does a dance of joy*

And, it's snowy out there. First day of winter, four days till Christmas, and there's snow on the ground. Not much, but take that, add in the ridiculous level of excitement that FOUR DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS!!! combined with SNOW!!! instills in three-year-olds, and stir in no more work for ten days, and suddenly I'm starting to feel a little of that old Christmas spirit again.

Rest is wonderful! As I was falling asleep last evening I had a moment when I realized that I wasn't worried about anything that had to be done, or that was going on, at work. It was a really marvelous feeling!

I love to think of a room full of three-year-olds excited that it's FOUR DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!! (Especially since I don't have to keep any kind of order or control over the situation.) I'm glad you survived your walk home and that your holiday has started. Yippee!!

The FOUR DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS excitement was mostly just tiresome and annoying. But add OMG!SNOW!!! to the mix and it really did become a bit endearing. They all lined up along the window and just stared at the half inch of white covering most of the playground like it was the most magical thing they'd ever seen.

Yay for holiday spirit! My holiday spirit took a 2-hour nap this afternoon. It was nice and relaxing. Although now I'm wide awake.

That is the problem with naps. I hope you didn't stay wide awake too late last night.
