Saturday thrift shopping
Aug. 2nd, 2014 02:41 pmI am slowly crossing things off the shopping list. I ordered the plaster and the body paints for Jabe, and they should arrive sometime in the next week or so. Today I was much more successful than last week in my attempt to go thrift store shopping. I really wanted to check out Zenith, but they are a small business and apparently (according to the handwritten note on the door) they've gone on vacation this week. Maybe next week. I did make it to Goodwill, though, and picked up a skirt, suit jacket, and shirt that are absolutely not thirties-style but will work well enough if I can find the right accessories. I still need a hat, purse, and shoes but am feeling fairly confident that I'm going to have something Jane Marple-ish to wear.
I also stopped at Utrecht's and bought the paints for Jabe's head. I'm pretty sure they should work for tree bark colors and also match the body paints I bought online. I'll make them work, somehow, because they are what I have now. The painting/make-up part of these things always scares me because I'm not at all an artist and I don't know the skills to get the effects I want. So let's all keep our fingers crossed that I don't make a beautiful head piece and then ruin it with a crappy paint job. What I totally failed to think about buying was paint brushes. I have a few, but no idea if they're the right size for the job or not. Oh well, that can be rectified pretty easily the next time I'm out and about.
And now it's time for the weekly Saturday Slump!
