Let the halloween preparations start

My goal for this evening was to come to a final decision about my Halloween costume (theme this year is Gods and Monsters) and then figure out what I need to get for it. I had all sorts of could-be-cool-or-stupid ideas floating around, but ended up going with a sort of classic Greek Athena idea. Since I had a Joann's gift card, I bought fabric for the Chiton, some cord for the girdle, and a couple of really cute owl things to use as fasteners. It should all arrive sometime next week, and the lovely thing about chitons is that they're basically just folded fabric with a few spots fastened together at the shoulder. I fashioned an impromptu one out of a sheet in about five minutes, so it won't take too long to put the outfit together. There are a few other items I'll need to scavenge/craft, but I'll save them for tomorrow and the amazon gift card I have. This costume might end up being the cheapest thing I've ever made from items I didn't already possess. Win!

Yay!

To be even broader, I technically added Heroes to it as well: Heroes, Gods and Monsters. D wants to be the Masque of the Red Death. I am trying to pull together Gozer the Gozarian. Except I got a wig and it's not gonna work, so I have to figure out how to make my hair look like a spikey flat-top or at least get the right shape. Something like this maybe.

I still have to think of a good game.

Chitons are so easy and comfortable! They were popular in my SCA group for summer get togethers (in South Mississippi summers, comfortable is key!) even though they were not exactly in period. Are you going with a Doric style or the Ionic style?

I'm probably going with Doric, since the fabric I ordered won't be wide enough to do an Ionic style. I still have to figure out footwear and hair and such, but I'm excited at having an 'easy' costume for a change, lol.
