Happy Thanksgiving!

I got up at the crack of mid-morning, cleaned house like a madwoman for three hours, and was ready to go at just about 1pm.
ani_no_mouse came over, as did
lyda_pearl and her BF. We all went for a short walk in Frick Park, doing a quick and easy-for-old-dogs loop. Then LP and her bf headed out in order to meet other commitments while ANM came back to the apartment with me. We finished up the food prep and had a delicious dinner of turkey, mashed and sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and relish, peas, salad, and roasted garlic bread. Amazingly enough, the cats left all the food alone long enough for us to eat without having to constantly hop up and chase any of them away. Possibly the first time that's ever happened.

While letting the food settle enough for pie, we watched Roman Holiday, which somehow neither of us had ever seen before. I enjoyed it pretty well. Audrey Hepburn looked like she was about fifteen in the scenes without a lot of makeup and such. Gregory Peck's character was both sweet and entirely creepy-stalkerish, at the same time, which takes a bit of doing.
All in all, it was a delightful day. The walk was just enough exercise to whet the appetite, the food all turned out well, the clean-up was easy, and it was all very relaxing and stress-free, something that doesn't always happen with family occasions.
And, because no blog post is complete without a cat picture, let me show you Zoe's favorite new perch.

Date: 2014-11-29 01:18 am (UTC)As for the delicious cranberry sauce, I think it might have jelled more than usual because of the apple you put in it. I seem to remember that apples contain pectic, which is usually added to fruit when cooking it to make jam or jelly. In any case, it tasted really good on a peanut butter sandwich when I got home last night!
