A good day

I met up with a friend this morning for lunch and a movie. We went to the Waterfront, ate lunch at Panera (ooh, exciting, I know you all are so jealous!) and saw Mr. Holmes. I'm so out of the movie loop that I hadn't even heard of it until yesterday, when looking for a movie that I might not hate to see. And I'm happy to report that far from hating it, I found it very good. The make-up and acting used to take Ian McKellen from mid-seventies to early-mid nineties was incredibly well done and convincing. I won't include any spoilery thoughts since I'm too lazy to put in a cut, but I liked the movie quite a lot and recommend it.

It was good to spend some time with T. I don't get to see her very often because between her crazy work schedule and her young son, she's not free very often. So that was good. And then, almost as soon as I got home, it was time to head out again. lyda_pearl picked me up and we made a quick trip to Construction Junction so that I could see about getting a set of reclaimed cabinets to make my platform bed.

Four cabinets were found.

The two dark wood cabinets were mostly just dusty and dirty. The two lighter colored cabinets were appallingly filthy.
This one was the worst and took a long time to get reasonably clean.




All four of them are now drying out on the patio and tomorrow I'll be able to tell if they need another go round with the de-greaser or if they're ready to come inside.

In between the movie and the shopping I also managed to get one whole box of stuff packed up, and emptied/loaded the dishwasher. Wow I was productive!

The other thing that happened today was that while LP was here dropping the cabinets off, she took Kai Ram home with her. We all knew it was going to have to happen at some point, but it was wrenching to say goodbye to him anyway. My heart and my lap are feeling a little empty this evening. Zoe and Mal seem fine at the moment. I'm not sure they realize Kai is no longer here. Goodbye my inky little boy, there will always be a place for you on my pillow when you need it.

so sorry I had to steal him away. We had a rough night (it took me til 5am to realize his constant meowing might mean he wanted to be fed) but his encounter with Oz has been fine.

He ran up to greet Shadow but two black animals don't photographer well.

Aw, poor Kai! I'm sorry I forgot to remind you of the feeding schedule he's currently used to. He gets half a cup of dry food, split into three meals. He'll adapt to any feeding schedule but I think half a cup is the right amount of food. Sorry you all had a rough night. :(

The two darker cabinets seem pretty clean so I brought them inside. The lighter colored ones (heavier ones, too) are still a little grimy. At some point I need to go back out and do another round of scrubbing. Good thing I have a lot of scrubby pads!

we can probably sand them a bit with the power sander once must of the grease is off so they won't be tacky and attract dust.

Thanks. I've just finished round two of the scrubbing, and the brush seems to be staying at the relatively clean level it's starting at, so I think I might have got as much grease off as can be got off with my limited tool set. There does look to be a little bit more grime in the deep grains, but I can't get at that.

Love the Kai and Shadow reunion photo. It's probably a good thing that Shadows a bit frosty around the muzzle or it might not be possible to see Kai at all in the photo.

Glad you got the cabinets and are making progress with your plan for the new place.
I saw Mr Holmes yesterday too and liked it alot. I had seen previews the week before when we were there to see I'll See You In My Dreams.
Hope every one adjusts to Kai's new situation both at your abode and his new one.
