With all these thoughts of moving and starting a new life, I've been thinking a bit about Frodo and how he must have felt heading off to the Grey Havens. So, here ya go, a little Frodo drabble.

Moving On

His stomach was churning, an eagerness to leave all his pain and regret behind mixed with a fear that all he’d leave was loving friends. His demons were growing, though, and he was weakening. Soon he would no longer be able to withstand them.

Taking a deep breath, he strode onto the elven ship. He had loving friends here as well, he knew, and that gave him the strength to take this step, to look for healing and life in a new world. With a lighter heart than he’d had in years, he turned to Gandalf. “I’m ready,” he said.

Aren't all big changes like that? So scary, but necessary.

Oh, nice! I always think of the Grey Havens as very sad - Merry and Pippin and Sam without their beloved friend and cousin and the other way around, but of course Frodo has friends with him too!

It's hard to remember that, sometimes, but important. Frodo was going off, but not alone. Gandalf, Bilbo, Elrond and the others all loved him as much as Merry and Pippin and Sam. :D

I love the determination of those last two lines! What a difficult decision for Frodo to make, and I think you capture that very well. Lovely drabble :)

How true, the ambivalence he must have felt, both the fear of leaving Merry, Pippin and Sam, and the hope of healing.
The knowledge that he would be with Bilbo and Gandalf must have helped immensely.
