This is what happened
May. 23rd, 2005 08:35 amI was getting ready for bed last night, putting a fresh pillowcase on a pillow while walking toward the bed, and stepped on my cat's tail. She's a dark grey cat and hard to see in the dark. Naturally, she squawked and ran away, and for some reason this caused me to fall forward, rolling my big toe under my foot. Ouch. I muttered and cursed for a moment and then prepared to move on. Unfortunately, the pain in my toe decided to stay for the count. It is now somewhat purple, rather swollen and I have very limited range of motion. Not to mention it hurts.
I cancelled my run for this morning and put in a call to my doctor's office, leaving a message on the nurse line. Now I'm waiting for them to call me back, to find out if there's any point in going to the doctor to have it looked at. It's a toe, after all, and even if it's broken (which it probably isn't cause I'm not screaming in pain) there most likely isn't anything they can do about it. On the other hand, I just like to know where I stand with these things. I'd like to know if it's broken, even if there isn't anything to be done about it, if that makes sense.
So until I hear back from the doctor's office or have to go to work (around 1:30) I'm just going to sit tight, here at my computer and read hobbit fic. Or other fic if you've got a good recommendation (I may check out that BtVS/AtS virtual season).
Fun times, folks. Fun times.
ETA Well, the nurse just called me back. Told me to buddy tape the toe to the next one and then ice it for twenty minutes every hour. Stick my foot in a bowl of ice water. I'm finding that very difficult to do. I can't leave my foot in the water for 20 seconds, let alone 20 minutes, lol. Turns out I'm a wimp.
