Blah blah running blah blah )

I'm sad to be back at work today. Four days was clearly not enough to make me bored and ready to be back. Short week, though, so I'll get through it. I just need to come up with some sort of science activity for this morning. Hmm, I think I'll do evaporation (easy and all the materials are here) and then, if there's any interest there, I'll use it to lead into the water cycle in later weeks. Okay, off to work now.

Today was a running day. I concentrated very hard on the whole heel-to-toe thing. It's hard to tell if it helped or not - my legs are sore enough that nothing is going to feel really good for a while, I suppose - but I'll keep working on it.

On the happy side, I managed three miles again, although it took a lot more effort than a couple of weeks ago. Still, it made me happy to accomplish even a small something.

Crunches went well, again. I think next week I'll have to increase how many I'm doing but that's not a worry tonight. Tonight I think I'm going to crash early (each week seems longer and more tiring than the one before) and get a good start on my holiday weekend. Four days off work in a row. It's a beautiful thing!

Ah, Advil, you are my very bestest of best friends.

Several different people have suggested that I try running more heel to toe, which sounds great, except I don't know how to do that (I know how lame that sounds, but there it is). I guess the best way to work on that is to run really, really slowly so I can concentrate more on *how* I'm running. But that's going to have to wait until my leg muscles stop hurting so much. I suppose I'll be using ellipticals for a while, until things settle down.

*is not happy*

On the plus side, the crunches went better today. Or at least, they weren't such a shock to my system today.

Also on the plus side, I saw lots of little Snowbells and Crocuses (crocusi?) on the walk this morning. Very pretty.

Skipped the gym yesterday and went today instead of tomorrow, so it's a short week, gym-wise. My leg muscles are still pretty cranky from my three-mile runs last week, so the plan today was to go slow and not as far. I met with at least partial success with this plan. I started out at my usual slow pace, but added an incline on alternating quarter mile segments the first mile. That was enough to leave me feeling pretty tired for the rest of the run (2.5 miles), but I still pushed the speed the last half mile, which is probably what made my legs sore last week to begin with. So I guess my legs will continue to hurt. But I feel like I need to run faster, so I'm not sure what to do to minimize the amount of discomfort I feel for days and days afterwards (not stiffness, some sort of pain in the muscles on impact).

I also added in crunches. It's been two and a half or three years since I did the crunches on anything like a regular basis, so that sucked a lot. But I still did eight sets of 25, working upper, lower and side abs, so hopefully I can get back into a routine with that and tighten up my tummy a little bit.
