I think I've got some sort of heat rash or something. I'm insanely itchy, mostly on my upper legs and the inside of my wrists. There's just the faintest speckling of red and, as I mentioned, insane itchiness. I'm really pretty sure it isn't just dry skin, because that usually responds, at least temporarily, to lotioning. I've put on so much lotion in the past twenty-four hours that I kinda resemble a greased pig. This has made not even a little, brief dent in the itchies. I may lose my mind. If you see me running across the nightly news, covered from head to toe in a thick Jergins coating and screaming about the inhumanity of it all, pay it no mind. *tries desperately not to scratch*

Eeep, that sounds really annoying! How about some aloe vera gel?

Probably not a bad idea. If I'm still insanely itchy tomorrow, I'll have to stop at the store and buy something soothing.

A great way to get temporary itch relief is to run the itchies under water as hot as you can stand. I learned that waaaaay long ago in my east coast poison-ivy days.

Cortisone cream from the drugstore can also work wonders. Can it be an allergic reaction? Hives?

I briefly wondered if it was an allergic reaction to the new clothes I've been wearing this week (I bought them after I did the laundry, of course, and really needed them this week, so.), which would explain the upper legs, since most of what I bought is shorts, but it really doesn't explain the inner wrists very well. I also thought about what I've been eating, and the only thing I've had this week that I've never had before was pre-made chicken salad from a local grocers. I suppose they could have put some weird thing in that I've never had before, that I'm responding to, but then I would expect the rash to be more like hives (which it's not) and to be more all-over. However, if the rash goes away now that the chicken salad is gone, I might stop back at the store and see if they'll give me the list of ingredients.

Thanks. It's manageable for the moment, but if it doesn't go away soon, I might not have any skin left by the end.

Believe it or not, a lot of lotions and creams can make rashes *worse*, especially if they have a greasy base.

A cortisone cream should work. Or, try drying the area really well after washing it, then put Gold Bond powder on it.

I'm definitely going to have to do some shopping tomorrow, pick up a few of these excellent suggestions everyone's been giving me. I've never tried Gold Bond powder, but now may be the time. Thanks. :)

Gold Bond works well, but so does baby powder or after shower powder. I got in the habit of wearing it at Basic Training and AIT, since it was summer in the South. I used to get rashes under my breasts, behind my knees and on my thighs. That stuff? Works miracles! Good luck!

Thanks. I think I'll probably end up trying the Gold Bond powder. I did a little internet searching on heat rash, and this isn't really looking exactly like that, as it's not really in exactly the right areas, and it definitely doesn't look like heat rash (it doesn't look like much of anything, really), but I still don't think it's just dry skin, so who knows what the problem is. It's affecting my lower face and under my chin as well, an area that is definitely not suffering from dryness, lol.

The same thing happens to me every spring. The only thing that helps
Is hydro cortisone cream. It's like magic it goes away so quickly.

Something has to work, right? I don't think I've ever been so itchy. I'm adding hydro-cortisone cream to the list of things to buy today. :)

yeah, well, things still suck pretty royally today, but at least I'm not quite as itchy.

well, any reduction in itchiness is an improvement in my book (that would be Tales from the Land of the Horrendously Itchy Tick-Bites)!

I hope life becomes noticeably less sucky soon.

Oatmeal. Make a watery gruel and slather it on, or dump it in the bath. Aveeno makes a nicer preparation.
