auntiemeesh: (as seen on tv)

Dude, I have officially had enough of Babylon 5. The psycorps episode pushed me over the edge. The methods of filming, the quality of the directing, the studied stiffness of the actors, the uninspired writing (this is not to say the ideas are all bad, just the way they're written), the extremely cliche situations and reactions of everyone involved all conspire to make me want to hurl things at my tv. So, in consideration of my budget, which doesn't really have room for tv replacement at the moment, I'm sending the B5 dvds back to Netflix and moving on to something else.

Thank goodness there's such a variety in our tv shows. I know half of you probably hate the shows that I love the most, and you would probably give the exact same reasons I gave for giving up on B5. Speaking of, I do believe I'm going to watch some Farscape, to clear the palate, so to speak. Last night I watched Nerve and Hidden Memory, so tonight it's Bone to be Wild and Family Ties. Whatever else you might say about Farscape, you certainly can't accuse most of the acting of stiffness. *grins*

eta: Or, you know, maybe I'll just go to bed, since I have to be up extra early tomorrow. Early dismissal for the holiday, but my team leader scheduled me early so I'd get a full day of archives. It's a nice thought, but I'd rather have the short day.

Sadly, the Farscape episode called family ties is not much like the show of the same name. One of the things I love about episode names for tv shows is how referential they are to movies, books, other tv shows, lol.

When you say you are working in archives what are you doing? I don't usually think of preschools as having much in the way of archives.

This particular center has been around since 1974. It's a non-profit org. run by a board of directors. So there are tons of records related to the Board. There is also a lot of stuff on the history of the school. There is the budget/financial type stuff. There is the day-to-day running of the school stuff. Also, the center owns and is located in a building used as a community center, so there is a lot of stuff about the building, its uses, renovation, history, etc. The woman who started the center has participated in numerous child care/advocacy/community committees, through her role as our executive director, so there are a lot of records in relation to that. And finally, she is also the executive director of our sister center and so there are records relating to that.

Most of the stuff isn't flashy or really exciting (unless it relates to something you're interested in), but then, very little in most archives is. It is a wealth of information, however, for anyone interested in studying trends in child care, child care legislation, as well as things more specific to our center.

Oh man, I completely agree about B5. I hated it, but everyone I talk to makes it out to be some kind of shining paragon of sci-fi perfection. To the point where I was starting to wonder what the hell was wrong with me for not liking it.

That's sort of the way I feel about it too, that I'm supposed to like it because everybody does. If I had caught it first time round, before seeing more recent sci/fi shows, I probably would have liked it better, but I don't know, even ten-fifteen years ago I was offended by stiff acting far more so than scenery-chewing.
