There was new Lost on tonight, so of course I went out with the comic guys. Luckily I didn't screw up the VCR this time, so I was able to watch it when I got home.

So many thoughts swirling through my head right now. Wow! This was one of those episodes that make me fall in love with the show all over again. Then it's on to next week, with the love triangle from hell, that is so old it has mold growing on it. Please God, let one of those idiot men kill the other and put us all out of our misery.

Giving Claire amnesia was a nice twist. It preserves the mystery of the island very neatly. So, how did she get away from Ethan? How would a woman who is nine months pregnant escape from a man as strong and clever as Ethan seemed to be? On the other hand, if she was allowed to escape purposefully, what was the motive behind the 'I want her back and I'll kill them one by one until I get her' speech.

I loved the bit of backstory we got on Charlie tonight. Poor Charlie. He thought it would be so simple to scam that woman. Charm the pants off her, pick up one or two small but valuable items and vamoose. But he's got too much of a conscience for that and so it gets all complicated and painful for him. Especially when he tries to get a job and be respectable. How much fun was it watching him try to operate that copier? You have to give him credit, he tried to make the job work. He memorized the manual, did everything he could, when it would have been so much easier to just chuck the whole thing right from the get-go. That the whole thing went pear-shaped in the end was unavoidable. Makes you wonder what he spent the next year or two doing, until the plane crash.

He's got such a fixation on wanting to take care of others, and yet he so desperately needs someone to take care of him. When will we see that, eh? That's what I want to know. Charlie gets plenty of hurt, when will see some comfort?

I was waiting for him to do something stupid, so I wasn't at all surprised when he shot Ethan. I haven't made up my mind yet if I think it was smart or stupid, but I think, given what Charlie's been through, he couldn't have responded any differently. He needed Ethan to be taken out of the equation, and I think he's right that Ethan wouldn't have told them anything useful. Still, killing someone is an extremely serious, heavy thing, and Charlie is already carrying a very heavy load. Now I'm worrying about him. :(

Random conspiracy theories

I just had a weird thought. What if Ethan is a clone? I can see the interior of the island inhabited by a hive of Ethan look-alikes, sort of an X-Files kind of deal. He might have been on this island a lot longer than the french woman. There were those skeletons in the caves, after all, that Jack thought were probably at least fifty years old. It just seems so unlikely that he wouldn't know they would try to set him up, that he would fall prey to them so easily when all along he seems to have been the one in control. It was an awfully stupid mistake for him to have made and it doesn't make a lot of sense, to me, unless Ethan himself was expendable.

While I'm at it, I wonder if Ethan (or a pal of his) drugged Charlie and Claire so that they would be more pliable or to purposefully cause them to not remember anything after they were given the drug. If they'd been giving the drug to Claire for such an extended period of time, it could have caused retrograde amnesia as a side effect.

/conspiracy theories

Right. I was going to do some writing tonight, but it's already midnight. I really want to get something done for the [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_ficathon challenge, but it's going to be cutting it pretty close to see if I can come up with anything tomorrow evening. On the other hand, I had some good Troll Slayer thoughts at the gym this morning. If I can hold on to them for just a little while, I should be able to get a good start on the next chapter this weekend. :)

the love triangle from hell

That's a great way of putting it. After what I thought was a great show this week, I wanted to scream when I saw the previews for next week. I'm so sick of the show pushing those three together!

I like the conspiracy theories, by the way :) I thought that Ethan would have his own team of goons to fight the good guys at the end, but no. Hmm...

I really hope that next week sees the end of this particular love triangle. I've reached the point where I'm actively hoping for someone to die and put us all out of our misery, and I don't really care who it is that gets it, either. Hell, kill Kate off and then all the men on the island can start thinking with their brains again.

Wonderful! I was hoping you'd post on it. I, too, am sick to death of the love triangle from hell. I thought tonight's ep was one of the top 3 or 4, maybe even no. 2 (after The Moth, which, IMO, was perfection). Poor, poor Charlie! I loved, loved, LOVED him as the copier salesman! He tried so hard! And then tossing his cookies all over the copier! *clutches heart* Poor, poor, poor Charlie! Oh, for goodness sake, SOMEBODY write him some comfort fic! Please?

I absolutely adore this character, and not just because it's Dom. There is just so much to love about Charlie, and, really, what a dilemma to want to hold him and comfort him half the time, and the other half of the time want to throw him to the ground and snog him breathless. *sigh*

Honestly, I might have liked this episode even better than Moth. Charlie is becoming less of a victim. Whether I think that shooting Ethan was the best thing to have done in the long run, I definitely think it showed that Charlie is not going to back down at this point. I think it also shows that he's just a little on the edge, which is all to the good -- I like my favorite characters to have that slight edge of craziness to them, it gives them a little spice.

what a dilemma to want to hold him and comfort him half the time, and the other half of the time want to throw him to the ground and snog him breathless.

Lol! Poor Pips, what a dilemma, indeed. See, what you do is, you hold him and comfort him, which inevitably leads to the throwing on the ground and snogging him breathless. No dilemma at all. *bg*

Yes, but I would not be able to stop with the snogging. :-) I agree with you about the edginess; I like my men with a little flavah myself! ;-)

Yay for Charlie!

I was so GLAD that Charlie shot Ethan. It's true that killing someone carries pretty heavy karma, and he's already got a bagful, but I was so happy to see him CHOOSING an action rather than being happened to. I thought it was a real step in the right direction for him. Plus, it really made clear that he is not taking chances when it comes to Claire's safety, which is really quite dear of him! Ethan was entirely toxic; no WAY was he going to talk. The only thing he was going to do was to buy time til he could turn the new situation to his advantage. God, I hate your creepy idea of an island full of Ethan clones, although it would certainly be an interesting plot twist.
I am also pretty sick of the whole Sawyer/Kate/Jack thing; really, I think Jack seems to be growing weary of it also - I don't think they can build too many more eps around it without seriously losing credibility. And don't you think it was pretty darn stupid of Jack and Locke not to collect the guns back after the crisis was averted?!

YES! I wonder if all that will come into play next week?
Ethan deserved to die and I'm so glad Charlie had the balls to do him in, and to empty the whole round into him to make sure he got him. That's my boy! Go Charlie! I think Claire needs to comfort him, eventually. Look! See that bunny hopping across the screen! For Pete's sake, somebody take it and RUN with it! I'm way too busy to write it, but sure would like to read it! Meeshie??? Nickey????

Okay, the plot bunny is jumping up and down and demanding to be heard. The only problem is when to answer it. I really wanted to write a [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_ficathon story for this week but time is fast running out. I may try to write something over the weekend. I'll see what I can do. Amnesia can be fun to play with (although one amnesia story at a time is probably best), and I would love to see inside Claire's head as she reads over her journal...

Drat these blasted plot bunnies!

Attack of the Killer White Bunny Rabbit! :-) I was absolutely delighted by the peanut butter reference last night. And the look on Charlie's face was absolutely sigh-worthy. *sigh* I'll be patient. And, yes, you're probably right: one patient with amnesia at a time would likely be best. :-)

Claire: "I remember peanut butter. Why do I remember peanut butter?"

Charlie: "It was imaginary peanut butter, actually."

Hehehe! So much good stuff crammed into one hour. I'll do my best to get something written this weekend. :)

Yay for Charlie fic! And I had to let you know, last night in the middle of a hurt/comfort scene, one of my main characters - the eldest cousin - was telling a story to gravely injured and ill youngest cousin - and related the story of when said youngest cousin was born to elder cousin's Aunt Menysa - and, OUT OF THE BLUE these words came out of the man's mouth: "...My Auntie Meeshie, as I called her, ..." !!! HOW did you pop yourself into my story, I wanna know??? Hmmm??? Do you have any objections to my keeping it in there? I'll be happy to send you the entire scene so you can see what she's about. She was actually a very pretty woman, and loved by all. Sadly she died young, but lives on in her son. I'd love to keep the name if you don't mind. :-)

This gave me a great laugh. Please feel free to use the name, and I'd love to see the scene. :)

Charlie certainly needs Claire to comfort him, but before that happens I have this mental image of him trying to be her coach during a natural childbirth! I am really looking forward to that episode!

You've inadvertantly done something I've been trying to do for the better part of a year now. You've stirred my sister up to write fanfic! There is a ficlet sitting in my inbox this very minute waiting for betaing. *g*

You're absolutely right about that. There would have been no way to lock Ethan up, he would never have talked, and Charlie did what would eventually have to be done anyway. And I hope it helps him lay some of his ghosts to rest, but somehow I don't think it will. I have a feeling he's still going to have enough issues to fill a magazine rack.

When Jack asked Charlie later, "Why did you do it?" and Charlie answered "He deserved to die." Did you have a flashback to LOTR and Gandalf's lecture to Frodo, or was it just me?

I'm so pleased! I'll send you the scene in a bit. (Give YOU something to read for a change!) You writers! You wear me out. ;-) Seriously, I admire your fortitude and your ability to conform and adapt to so many different situations. While I adored writing all the stories I did for earlier Challenges, I've found lately that if I don't stick to this one little fictitious world I've created and am working on so hard I get sidetracked so bad I can't get back to it. So I've found a happy medium in the bits of beta I do that keep me in the stream, so to speak. I appreciate your indulging me like you do. :-)
