Once upon a time, I had muscles in my left arm. They weren't very strong, admittedly, but they were at least functional.

We have a childproof gate at our door, at work. I can open it fine with my right hand. Problem is, as often as not, I'm carrying a child with my right arm and that hand isn't free. I cannot open it with my left hand. This presents problems.

I added weights to my arm work this weekend, to see if I can fix this problem. I can only do bicep curls, because I can't fully complete any other motion, even weight free, yet. But I can do three pounds with the bicep curls, no pain at all. So that is of the good. I will be able to restore at least some measure of strength.

I made the mistake of also trying to do some external rotation exercises, with the stretchy band. I can pull the band about an inch before that one hurts. I did ten anyway, which was the mistake, as I can really feel that muscle protesting every time I move my arm now. I guess I'll just have to continue being patient with that one a little bit longer.

I hope you can soon get that left arm back to a functional level without too much pain! At least these new babies in your room should be considerably lighter than the ones who graduated to the next room, right?

These guys are a lot smaller/lighter than my old group, that's true. And several hours later, my arm has calmed down and is no longer screaming at me every time I move, so I'm feeling reassured that I didn't really do myself any damage this morning.

I hope you can work your way back to full strength. It'll be a gradual process. *encouraging hugs*

I need a store where I can buy a few doses of patience. I've never been good at waiting and I know that I still have months to go before there's any reasonable hope of being back to 100%.

Thanks. I have a hard time remembering that I need to do the heat/exercises/ice/advil routine every day. The arm really does feel better when I do that, but despite it being over two months, it hasn't become habit yet.

How annoying that the healing of your arm takes such a long time! I hope there will be (more) progression soon.

Thanks. I gather from other people with similar injuries that it takes anywhere from six months to a year to get 100% and I'm only a little over two months in, so I've got a ways to go still. But I can see/feel real progress in some areas so I have faith the rest will come, too.

Shoulders do take a long time to get right. Be patient and do what the therapist says.

I probably should go in and see the therapist again, at some point, since I'm still working off the exercises I got from him two weeks after the injury, and it's been over two months now. There might be other things I should be doing that I don't know about.

Worth at least a phone call to the therapist perhaps.

Anything on the 'net about shoulder rehabilitation that might help?

Happy healing!

I'm sure there's something, somewhere. When I first hurt my shoulder, I did a bit of research and found some good exercises, but I can't do any of them yet, because my shoulder still hurts to move in a lot of ways, and the one thing that everyone agrees on is that it's important to stay in a pain-free zone when doing this sort of rehab.
