Kate: What is that? (after hearing the big bad in the jungle)
Danielle: It's a security system.
Kate: A security system for what?
Danielle: The island.

Well, there you have it. No more pondering over the mystery of the beast. It's a security system.

It was interesting, having flashbacks for more than one person this week. We're getting all sorts of good information. I loved the scene with Walt and Michael in the hotel, with Walt creating a fuss in the hallway at five-thirty in the morning.

Now we know Sawyer's real name, and why he was on the plane, as well as what he was doing at the police station in Boone's flashback. It was great fun to the see the indecision on Sawyer's face as he debated whether to say anything to Jack about his dad. It made for a nice little interaction between the two of them. And I got a kick out of Kate looking for Sawyer as her group left the beach in search of the dynamite.

Speaking of which, is Arzt going to be Boone's replacement, or is he just a meatsock redshirt? The thing didn't kill him, and he's been on a couple of episodes now, so I'm thinking he might be Boone's replacement, but then, having said that, he's bound to die in the finale. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Okay, what the hell is Jack thinking, planning to hide everyone inside the hatch. He has no idea what's in there, whether the Others know about it or already have access to it, and the possibility of it opening with the 16 year old dynamite seems chancy, considering how resistant it's been to other things. Also, setting off dynamite at the secret hide-out is going to make a pretty significant amount of noise, which the Others will certainly be able to hear, which will lead them right to the hatch. And if Jack succeeds in blowing the hatch open, how is he going to lock it again so that the Others can't just walk right in? These are just a few of my questions. It seems like a very chancy plan. Not that I have a better one.

I want to see the Others. I want to know who they are. Is Alex going to be among them? What is their obsession with babies? How, when and why did they get on the island? Etc. etc. etc.

On to the Black Rock. Which, interestingly enough, turns out to be not so much a rock as a big old boat. Now that was an interesting revelation. TPtB answer one question only to raise ten others. How did the boat get so far inland? How long has it been there? What is it's connection to all the craziness on the island?

And another question. Where did Charlie get that wine bottle? You don't see many full-size bottles on an airplane. Did one of the passengers have it in their bag? If so, who found it and drank it? That aside, I liked the 'message in a bottle' idea. Not terribly original, but, as Locke said, sweet. And very optimistic. Leaving messages like that implies a faith that someone will see them at some point. Or at least that you desperately hope someone will see them, lol. I wonder who everyone left their messages for and what they said. I'd like to see that go up on ABC's Lost site. I've been following the diary they keep over there. It makes for an interesting read. I want to know more about the person writing it, if we're ever going to see her (I'll say her for sake of convenience, although it isn't entirely clear), what's the deal with her dive bag and her references to being abused in the past, as well as her strange paranoia about some guy named Larry.

Now, on to the spoiler for next week's finale. If you don't watch the trailer for the next week's episode, read no farther.

So, the Others get Claire's baby, there's skeletons in chains somewhere, probably in the Black Rock but possibly inside the hatch, and it looks like the raft is beset by storms. That should make for an exciting finale, which has to end in a nerve-wracking cliffhanger, I'm sure. And then it's a long, dry summer without anything to keep us going. Can't wait to see what's going to happen, and I hope it's all worth it.

There is still lots of mystery concerning the beast. Is it mechanical or organic? Why did it let Locke go in the first place? It does point to Locke having all the answers to the needs of the island.

The Black Rock looks like a pirate ship to me, which probably means things have been mixed up on the island for a looong time.

I wonder what the obsession is not just with babies, but babies born on the island?

I don't think Artz is going to make it to Season II.

I'm really happy that all the secrets are coming out. Having Sawyer give up the info he had on Jack's Dad showed that he does care about people. And although the raft is afloat, I don't think they will get very far. Sawyer is too good of a character to get lost at sea. heh, Lost: at Sea - the spin off!!

Lost: At Sea, lol! I can see it now. How long before Michael and Sawyer face off over the last mango? What sort of strange sea creature will Jin present as lunch this week, and who will ralph as a result?

I agree though, I can't see them getting rid of those four characters so the raft is going to have to come back. I think they're going to get caught in the changing winds of approaching monsoon season and they'll find themselves right back where they started. Although it might be interesting if they land on a different part of the island altogether and not even realize they're on the same island as the others. That could present an interesting subplot for the beginning of season two.

I want to know Arzt's first name. Did Hurley actually say it? All I caught was "bitchin'".

I'm also skeptical of Jack's plan. Expecially after Walt's warning not to open the hatch. That kid must have some sort of special power. Intriguing.

I could have kissed Sawyer when he told Jack about his dad. He does have a heart after all! It looked like he was looking for Kate just before they launched the raft. Too bad those two didn't get a proper goodbye.

Does anyone else think the Marshal was an ass in Kate's airport flashback?

Hurley didn't say it really clearly but I thought it sounded like Lesby or something strange like that. Maybe Lesley, although I thought I heard a b in there somewhere. Anyway, it's clear Arzt doesn't like his first name at all. I might stick with Hurley and just call him Art.

I did love Sawyer for 'fessing up to Jack about his dad. Sawyer tries so desperately to be hard and cold but every now and again his heart betrays him and he has to do the right thing.

That Marshal was deliberately provoking Kate to do something. He knows exactly what buttons to push and has no problem with pushing them. What caught my attention was the comment about Kate calling him all the time talking about extenuating circumstances and how he thought she was just playing with him. I can't help myself. I want to know more.

Hurley said it, but I couldn't hear it.

I'm also curious about Walt. He seems to have some sort of prescience. I thought it was sweet, him giving Vince to Shannon, and then the dog swimming out after the raft. But I'm not entirely convinced yet about that dog...

Yeah, Sawyer was allowing his good side to show for a change. That remark about "kids are like dogs" was interesting, and seemed to hint that he had been abused.

Of course the Marshal was an ass. Haven't you noticed that the people in the survivor's pasts are almost *all* asses. Every person's backstory we've seen so far, they've been surrounded by jerks; anyone sympathetic in their past seems to have died.

All we really know about Sawyer's parents was that his mom was terrified of his dad, with good reason, considering he ended up killing her. So I think abuse in Sawyer's past is pretty likely.

Of course it is a silly plan. They don't even know that dynamite will open the thing, which in my head I have dubbed "Pandora"--I think they will get it open right at the end of the finale, and there is going to be *something* in there that we will have to wait until next season to find out. But it's going to be bad.

And I wish I could have seen more clearly who it was that Charlie punched next week. (That sentence sounds silly.)

I'm pretty sure it was Sayid. At least, it was someone who has hair very much like Sayid's, lol.

I like your name for the hatch. Nothing good can come from that hatch, but I'm wondering if the actual opening of the hatch will be downplayed. You know, everyone will be very anxious and tense when they open it, and there won't be anything obviously wrong with it. I think whatever badness comes of it will be slow to reveal itself.

Interesting...

I'm not sure if it means anything, but Jack's seat row was 23 and Ana-Lucia's was 42, both of which are included in Hurley's set of cursed numbers.

I'll bet the writers did that to intentionally torture people.

I so didn't catch that! I love all those little things the writers throw out, just to play with our minds, lol.
