Kate: What is that? (after hearing the big bad in the jungle)
Danielle: It's a security system.
Kate: A security system for what?
Danielle: The island.

Well, there you have it. No more pondering over the mystery of the beast. It's a security system.

It was interesting, having flashbacks for more than one person this week. We're getting all sorts of good information. I loved the scene with Walt and Michael in the hotel, with Walt creating a fuss in the hallway at five-thirty in the morning.

Now we know Sawyer's real name, and why he was on the plane, as well as what he was doing at the police station in Boone's flashback. It was great fun to the see the indecision on Sawyer's face as he debated whether to say anything to Jack about his dad. It made for a nice little interaction between the two of them. And I got a kick out of Kate looking for Sawyer as her group left the beach in search of the dynamite.

Speaking of which, is Arzt going to be Boone's replacement, or is he just a meatsock redshirt? The thing didn't kill him, and he's been on a couple of episodes now, so I'm thinking he might be Boone's replacement, but then, having said that, he's bound to die in the finale. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Okay, what the hell is Jack thinking, planning to hide everyone inside the hatch. He has no idea what's in there, whether the Others know about it or already have access to it, and the possibility of it opening with the 16 year old dynamite seems chancy, considering how resistant it's been to other things. Also, setting off dynamite at the secret hide-out is going to make a pretty significant amount of noise, which the Others will certainly be able to hear, which will lead them right to the hatch. And if Jack succeeds in blowing the hatch open, how is he going to lock it again so that the Others can't just walk right in? These are just a few of my questions. It seems like a very chancy plan. Not that I have a better one.

I want to see the Others. I want to know who they are. Is Alex going to be among them? What is their obsession with babies? How, when and why did they get on the island? Etc. etc. etc.

On to the Black Rock. Which, interestingly enough, turns out to be not so much a rock as a big old boat. Now that was an interesting revelation. TPtB answer one question only to raise ten others. How did the boat get so far inland? How long has it been there? What is it's connection to all the craziness on the island?

And another question. Where did Charlie get that wine bottle? You don't see many full-size bottles on an airplane. Did one of the passengers have it in their bag? If so, who found it and drank it? That aside, I liked the 'message in a bottle' idea. Not terribly original, but, as Locke said, sweet. And very optimistic. Leaving messages like that implies a faith that someone will see them at some point. Or at least that you desperately hope someone will see them, lol. I wonder who everyone left their messages for and what they said. I'd like to see that go up on ABC's Lost site. I've been following the diary they keep over there. It makes for an interesting read. I want to know more about the person writing it, if we're ever going to see her (I'll say her for sake of convenience, although it isn't entirely clear), what's the deal with her dive bag and her references to being abused in the past, as well as her strange paranoia about some guy named Larry.

Now, on to the spoiler for next week's finale. If you don't watch the trailer for the next week's episode, read no farther.

So, the Others get Claire's baby, there's skeletons in chains somewhere, probably in the Black Rock but possibly inside the hatch, and it looks like the raft is beset by storms. That should make for an exciting finale, which has to end in a nerve-wracking cliffhanger, I'm sure. And then it's a long, dry summer without anything to keep us going. Can't wait to see what's going to happen, and I hope it's all worth it.

Interesting...

I'm not sure if it means anything, but Jack's seat row was 23 and Ana-Lucia's was 42, both of which are included in Hurley's set of cursed numbers.

I'll bet the writers did that to intentionally torture people.

I so didn't catch that! I love all those little things the writers throw out, just to play with our minds, lol.
