Jun. 23rd, 2005 09:57 pmI had all sorts of new driving experiences today.
We realized that I'd been kinda slacking on the whole driving thing due to the fact that I get very stressed out when driving and then don't really want to drive anymore. So we're going to ignore my fear induced lack of desire, and I'm going to do lots of driving anyway, in order to conquer said fear.
So, we were heading out to the petstore so that I could buy some yummy food for Tooks and we promptly ran into a traffic jam. My very first traffic jam. It was very exciting, in a sit still and do nothing sort of way. I was able to fine-tune my braking skills. Then we had to drive through the area where there had been, apparently, a fairly awful accident. Everything had been removed, pretty much, but traffic was still being directed into the other lane for a short distance, right where the accident had been, while men scrubbed something that we won't think overly much about off the road.
Coming back from the store, I had to do my first left turn onto traffic from a parking lot (not at a traffic light). That was fun as well, but luckily my sister is a very patient woman who believes it's okay to wait until I'm ready to go.
Then, this evening, it was time for my first night driving. All in all, everything went pretty well. It's harder to see where the lanes are when it's dark, so I ended up cutting a corner a little close, but there was no traffic so it was a learning experience without hurting anyone. I also had my first passengers for the evening drive, which made the event all the more exciting. ;P
P wanted to write a drabble for the
hobbit_ficathon challenge. Although she doesn't really get the whole hobbit thing, she was intriqued by the challenge. So she wrote a little drabble using original hobbit characters and then we set up a livejournal for her, with which to post it. So my sister is now online as
lyda_pearl, and she has posted her first fic on the ficathon. *grins*
