Last night was the Halloween party. It was okay. Not nearly as fun as the party I went to last year, but I don't suppose it's fair to compare them. The folks at last year's party were LARPers and they really got into the spirit of things. Nearly everyone was wearing a costume last night, but it was a much smaller crowd, inside, with folks just standing around reminiscing about high school. The evening was capped off with a couple of movies, Rocky Horror Picture Show, of course, and Land of the Dead. Watch out, Pittsburgh, the zombies are pissed off and they've figured out how to cross the rivers.

Before we went to the party, we had our own campfire in the backyard, in order to watch the lighting of the fires on the boom piers and listen to the music from a band that was playing directly across the river from our house. We didn't stay long though and after taking a short stroll along the bridge loop (if you go across the footbridge a half a block downriver from our house and walk up to the 12th street bridge and back to our house, it's about a mile), we headed over to the party headquarters.

Today, [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl, [livejournal.com profile] whtmtnwmn and I took Sunny and Ben out for a nice long hike (well, it was long by my standards, although I know for Ben and his mommy it was just a short little stroll). We hiked nearly all the way up Mt. Forest, which ends in cliffs overlooking Berlin. We turned around about ten minutes short of the top because poor Sunny the Three-Legged Wonder Dog was getting a bit gimpy on her emergency backup fourth leg. It was still a good hour and a half on a steepish incline, so I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Lyda Pearl and I are determined to get back into (or, really just into) a fitness regime. Starting tomorrow, we're going to the gym five days a week. We may not do a lot every day, but at least we'll be doing something. We're also both determined to walk to work every day, regardless of weather. If I can do these few things and then just be careful of how much junkfood I eat, I could be in good shape. Here's hoping, anyway. Just now I ran out to Walmart and bought each of us a pedometer so we can keep track of how much walking we're doing. Yay for buying new toys. *g*

Do any of them need...a roommate?

Well, zombies aren't great conversationalists and they do have a nasty tendency to eat people, but other than that, they would probably make pretty good roommates.

Call 1-800-Brains-R-Us to speak to your local Zombie Rental Agent.

Congrats on your determination to establish a fitness routine. Good luck to both of you. I was surprised last night to find out that in Mississippi parents drive their chidren door-to-door when they go trick-or-treating. No pedometers needed for these kids. This may be why Mississippi is officially the most obese state in our obese nation! I now need to move my butt to the gym so I can resist becoming a true Mississippian - also to both warm me up and wake me up for a productive afternoon.

wow. I just noticed your entry tags. DOes LJ do that automatically, or is it something you add? If the later, I am once again amazed and overwhelmed at how sophisticated your journal is!

Tags are a relatively new lj feature that you can play with. When you are writing a new post in your 'update' box, you can scroll down to the bottom. Directly below the boxes that allow you to choose a mood and a music, you'll find a box that says 'tags'. You can put whatever you want in there, to label your entry. It should be short descriptors, like 'ru-dog', 'the cats', 'Dr. Snoopy', etc. Then if you go up to the very topmost toolbar on the lj page, where you have the buttons to update and manage your journal, you can go to 'manage' and one of the options is 'tags'. This page will show you a list of all the tags you've used and if you click on one, it will take you to a page with all the journal entries that contained that tag. I find it really handy when I'm trying to find a fic I posted, cuz I'll just do a search for Sam fic, for instance, and it will bring up all the posts that I tagged with that descriptor.
