Jan. 18th, 2011 09:50 amIt is treacherous out there! The main roads are mostly fine, but the sidewalks are mostly just a smooth sheet of thick ice and in my neighborhood, so are the roads. Not ideal walking conditions. I made it off my little street and about half a block on the next street (heading down to an intersection) by walking on the snowy margin between street and sidewalk. After the intersection, there was no such margin. Just icy sidewalk and icy road, both going uphill. As I stood at this interesting juncture in my morning walk, weighing the pros and cons of road vs sidewalk and wondering how great the chances were of re-injuring my bad shoulder if I should fall, when a car pulled up and the older gentleman driving it asked if I would like a ride. He was going in my direction and was able to get me almost the entire way to work.
I had a similar experience last winter on an exceptionally cold morning, really too cold to be out, when another stranger (a young woman) also took pity on me and drove me to work. Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers!
