Some days my brain just totally fails me. Getting a ride home after babysitting this evening, the dad hands me my babysitting fee. I stash it somewhere and immediately put it out of my mind. Get home, put my stuff down, strip off my coat/hat/boots. Reach into my coat pocket to transfer money to my wallet. Hm. No money in my coat pocket. Maybe the other pocket? Nope. Double check both pockets. Crap! Did it fall out of my pocket when I pulled my keys out, out in the snow and slush covered street? Did it fall out in the car when I tried to put it in my pocket? I headed out into the street, in my slippers (did I mention it's about 5F out there?), to search for a small wad of cash. Nothing. Maybe I should text the dad to look in his car. No, wait. Brain flash! I put the money in my backpack. Phew! I crept back inside, put the money in my wallet, and shook my head at my idiocy.

Positives:

*I did eventually find that money.

*Steelers won the AFC Championship. Next up, the Superbowl.

*I feel mostly pretty healthy today, for the first time in a while.

*My apartment is kinda sorta clean (if you don't look in the dark corners).

*I love the new Hawaii Five-0. Tonight's episode was excellent and fun, and had an interesting little moment at the end that should lead to more excellence in future. It also provided a little brain tease for me. I caught one snatch of a familiar looking actor about fifteen minutes in, but I didn't catch the character's name, and besides, imdb doesn't have any actor information up for the episode yet. So I've spent the evening trying to beat the identity of that actor out of my brain. And eventually, I did. The actor is Joel Moore, who pops up occasionally on Bones as one of Brennan's hapless interns. Yay, brain!

Positives:

*Got a ride to work, so I didn't have to risk life and limb on ice-covered sidewalks.

*Managed, after much effort, to coax shopping list out of feeble brain. I bought all three things I had on my mental 'can't go another day without' list.

*To go along with the above, the cats have cat food, for which they would be very grateful if they weren't cats, who take such things as divine right.

*The Pens beat the Red Wings, which is always very satisfying. It's especially nice to see right now since they a top of the league team and the Pens sometimes tend to struggle against top-tier teams.

*I don't have a sore throat (I'm ignoring the runny nose, burning/watering eyes and sinus headache - lalalalalal).

*Tomorrow is Wednesday, already!

Positives:

*I had a yummy, yummy cheeseburger and sweet potato fries for supper tonight.

*I didn't have to go outside into the cold at all, for any reason, today.

*My movie of choice for the evening was Little Miss Sunshine. A much better choice than yesterday's regrettable adventure. Little Miss Sunshine managed to combine elements of National Lampoon-like absurdity with heart-felt emotion as each member of the Hoover family struggled with their individual crises. I give it two thumbs up.

Positives (in just under the wire today):

*I slept in super late and it was lovely.

*The Pens overcame the Bruins, 3-2

*The Steelers beat the Ravens for the right to stay in the playoffs.

*The Pitt Panthers beat Seton Hill to give Pittsburgh a trifecta of win.

*Mal and Maggie were very cute today, chasing each other around and batting at each other while all stretched out on the carpet.

Today's positives:

*I managed to take probably pretty close to fifteen minutes of my half hour break today, as compared to five minutes of my break yesterday.

*We were supposed to have 14 toddlers today but two of them didn't show up.

*It's Thursday and other than a growing need to vacuum, my living room and bedroom are still in very much the same state of tidiness they were by the end of my cleaning fit on Saturday. Yay!

*I earned babysitting money.

*Corollary to that, because I babysat, I once again got a ride home and didn't have to walk in the snow.

Positives for the day:

*One of my coworkers offered me a ride home, meaning I didn't have to drag my weary, pmsing self home in the snow.

*Only nine kids at work today.

*Penguins won tonight, stopping a three game losing streak, and crushing Montreal along the way (first time we've beat the hated Habs all season, and it felt great!).

I've been Little Miss Crankypants a lot lately, so I'm going to try doing a daily Positives post, starting today. Maybe this will help me see the sunny side of life.

*One of the kids at work, who rarely says even a single word at a time, was so excited about the snow we got today that when his mom picked him up, he burst out "mama, there snow!" What made it a lol moment was that he was picking up some rice at the time and his mom said, "that's not snow, that's rice. Rrrrrriiiiiccccce. Rice."

*My apartment is probably about 60% decluttered and it's so wonderful to have a little more room to move around.

*We got two-three inches of fresh snow this afternoon. Walking home, a few of the houses still had exterior garlands or lights from the holidays and seen through the new snow, in the dark with a light snow still falling, it really was exceptionally beautiful and serene (even with traffic).

*Mal was very playful this evening, dragging Maggie's new toy all around. I love watching him play, especially on the rare occasions, like tonight, when he's content to entertain himself and doesn't demand that I do most of the work.

*I've been watching South Park on Netflix and for some reason, I'm really entertained by the fact that they have an actual child voicing the toddler Ike. His random insertions of 'cookie mo'ster' and 'no kick da baby' make me smile every time. I must be a sucker for toddlers or something.
