Icon meme

Earlier this week, possibly on Wednesday, when I was having the worst day ever, [livejournal.com profile] slightytookish gave me some icons to explain in the current icon meme going around.

My icons, let me show you them )

I watched the most recent two episodes of Supernatural today. I seem to have trouble watching it on air lately (partly due to playoff season, partly due to falling behind and then not watching because I'm behind, thus falling even farther behind). All I can say is just, dude! I cannot imagine what next season's running theme is going to be, after this season.

Related to that, I was talking with a friend this morning and we were discussing the movies and shows we like. She has only watched one or two episodes of Supernatural, from season one, and didn't have a very positive impression of it. "Too campy," she said. "I like my main characters to suffer." I may have laughed in her face. I told her she should give it another try. Get through season one and watch the suffering start piling up in season two.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] lily_the_hobbit, who gave me the letter "i."

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter if you request one.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

1. Island Paddy, by Lunasa
2. Isengard Unleashed, LotR soundtrack
3. It's About You, by Train
4. Impressed, by Natalie Imbruglia
5. I Want You, by The Kooks

And now for your moment of glee. The Penguins won 3-1 against the Flyers tonight. Which puts them at 3-1 for the series. Marc-Andre Fleury was amazing, blocking shot after shot after shot, 45 in all. He may not have been at the top of his game on Sunday, but he was absolutely on form today.

My eyes glanced over the headlines as I opened up my homepage, and this is what jumped out at me.

Clinton unveils initiative to combat 'scourge of piracy.'

WTF, I wonder. Are we revisiting the eighteenth century and no one told me? I've been wearing all the wrong hair!

Now, I realize that since the pirates started grabbing, or attempting to grab U. S. ships, it's become this big issue, but this quote sort of sums it up for me.

"The modus operandi for a lot of countries and shipping companies up until now has been, 'OK, they hijacked the ship. They get it into port. Nobody's harmed. We pay a ransom. We've done a business calculation. so that's the way it is,' " she said.

Read the full article at CNN.com.

Anyway, moving right along. I believe it's day 8 of the happy meme.

One, the Penguins beat the Flyers 4-1 tonight. Damn good start to the playoffs.

Two, I watched the game at a Martini bar with [livejournal.com profile] eve11, her boyfriend, and another friend of hers from work. I had a violet martini and now, I'm not familiar with martini bars and martinis in general so I don't know if this is the norm when serving them, but I've never seen it before. We got a martini glass with the drink, and then another serving of the drink on the side, in a cute little glass nestled in a bowl of ice. So, although the drink price was high per drink, it was actually not any more expensive than the mixed drinks I normally get, since it came with two servings. Plus, it was very yummy. Happy making, you could say.

Three, my taxes are done and I'm getting a refund so all is well with the world.

Four, sad babies stopped crying when I came into the room and picked them up. I'm just naturally awesome that way.

Five, 'scourge of piracy' just made me laugh like nobody's business. You go, Hilary. Fight those pirates!

Happy meme day #7

One, I finally made it back to the gym, for the first time in something like a month, and had a successful three mile run.

Two, laughing babies are joy personified. We had lots of laughing babies today.

Three, I'm finally starting to get over this cold I've got. My throat doesn't hurt today, for the first time in a week.

Oops

I seem to have forgotten to do my happy meme yesteday. So, better late than never, right?

Happy meme day #6

One, I spent the morning lazing in bed reading a good book, To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis.

Two, I had yummy pizza for supper. Mm, pizza.

So, not as much happy as most days, but mainly because I just didn't do anything other than laze around reading, and then babysitting, and then lazing around reading some more. End of day.

Happy meme day #5

One, I just watched Doctor Who. No spoilers, but I loved it. I liked Michelle Ryan a lot more than I was expecting. Her stint on Merlin left me unimpressed with her acting skills so I wasn't too excited when I heard she was in Planet of the Dead.

Two, played online Rock Band with [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and her SO last night. I'm counting it in today's happy because by the time we finished it was at least technically today. And it was so much fun. At first I thought it might be weird, because I would still be here by myself playing, but we had an IM window open and between that and being able to follow their playing on the screen, it really was almost like being there. They've both been playing a lot longer than me and they mostly play the expert or hard levels, so I felt a little pathetic playing medium. But I've gotten pretty decent at medium, so I think today maybe I'll work on the hard level a bit, see if I can master that fifth fret button.

Three, it's Easter! Happy non-denominational springtime rebirth celebrations to you all!

Happy meme day #4

One, new Doctor Who today. It's downloading now, no idea how long it's going to take but at some point tonight I'll be able to watch it (at the moment it's saying something like 40hrs to dl, but I'm confident it will pick up soon).

Two, I finally got up the courage to get my hair colored at the salon. It's a lovely reddish brown now, darker than my natural color but really pretty. It was a little bit of an overwhelming experience at first, because I really didn't know how to choose the right color, and almost made a monumental mistake by going with a color that would have looked very artificial (nothing wrong with that except it's not what I want). Thanks to a very patient consultation with my stylist and two other people at the salon (one of whom I suspect was the manager) we were able to figure out exactly what I really wanted. It's a much richer color, and all the grey is gone, yay!

If you saw ME in a police car, what would you think I got arrested for? Answer me, then post to your own journal and see how many crimes you get accused of.

On noes! What did I do to end up like this, dragged off in a police car?

Yeah, I love the phonesheep, so I turned 'em into an icon. A memesheep icon, if you will.

I guess it pays off to fiddle with how I present my screenname. When I entered it as auntiemeesh I got married off to Brandon Boyd, whom I've never heard of.

Still meme-ing away.

There is a bit of rough language in this one )

So I had a bit of a Hetty Wainthropp marathon last night. Watched the first four episodes, with two left for tonight. *bg* My favorite moment so far comes at the beginning of episode four, 'Widdershins,' when seventeen year old Geoffrey (Dom Monaghan) shows up at the Wainthropp door with a teddy bear in one arm, a soccer ball in the other and all his bits and bobs in bags, scattered at his feet. "I've been chucked out," he says with a little boy lost expression, "I'm homeless." I had to go back and see it again. It was too cute.

Of course, it's not all about the Monaghan. The show itself is very good. I have a penchant for liking middle-aged (and older) female detectives. I love Agatha Christie's Miss Marple. Hetty's blend of tough, no-nonsense older person and gentle, caring motherly woman make her a fascinating heroine.

Unfortunately there are almost no extras on the DVD, which is a shame. There is one interview with Patricia Routledge, a filmography for each of the primary actors, and a photo gallery. That's about it.

Still, all in all, a very good set of DVDs and I hope they sell well enough that Acorn Media puts the other four series of Hetty on DVD as well.

Well, I've got my evening's entertainment all planned out. I ordered the season one boxset of 'Hetty Wainthropp Investigates' over the weekend and it arrived today. So for once I'm okay with the fact that there's nothing good on TV.
