Ha ha! I sewed and there were no disasters or crises. I now have a shift (alarmingly large - [livejournal.com profile] eve11, we may need to have a fitting party because I think I'll need help pinning it to make it fit better - the front and back are too wide and the sleeves are falling off my shoulders) and a bum roll. This means, unfortunately, that next up is the corset, which is not going to be such an easy weekend's work. But it's a challenge and I like challenges. And I want to get all the undergarments out of the way before attempting the dress. That way I'll have the proper underpinnings when I'm fitting the bodice and such.

In other news, there was Doctor Who this weekend. This ended up rather longer than I expected, as I ended up pretty much watching the episode over again and doing a sort of partial play by play. 5x13, The Big Bang )
auntiemeesh: (eleventh doctor)
Okay, I just watched Doctor Who 5x12, The Pandorica Opens. Incoherently rambling spoilers ahead )

Quiet/boring weekend, but that's how I like them to be sometimes. I did a little laundry, washed a few dishes, and spent a lot of time cruisin' the internets. I watched some Patrick Troughton era Doctor Who - not many of his earlier episodes survived, so I made it through all of season five in very short order. I'm now familiar with Jamie and both Victoria and Zoe. Only one Victoria episode has survived, but I saw a couple with Zoe, whom I like a lot. And I love Jamie.

I loved The Mind Robber a lot. )

I watched part of the hockey game, but I got bored. The Flyers came out crappy and went down 0-3. Now, not quite half way through the third, they are down 3-5. Looks like they'll be facing elimination, back on home ice, on Tuesday. To put it in perspective, last year things played out the same. The Pens couldn't win in Detroit and Detroit couldn't win in Pittsburgh. Game five was in Detroit and the Pens lost, and lost very, very badly. Horrifyingly badly, one might even be tempted to say. Nothing daunted, they came home, won here, went back to Detroit and did what they had to do. So the Flyers can't be counted out just cuz they're sucking tonight, but it does put them in a very dangerous position moving forward.

I usually start scouring the internet for Doctor Who around 4:30 in the afternoon, but don't usually find anything until sometimes as late as six-thirty or seven. Hope springs eternal, however, so it being a little before five, I started scouring. It's been up for over an hour already! Did it air super early today or was it just an extraordinarily speedy turn around? I don't know but I certainly won't complain.

I went shopping this morning but managed to refrain from actually spending much money. I wandered through The Exchange, but saw no dvds or cds that made me actually want to take them home. I toyed with the idea of going into the Game Stop but made myself just keep on going. I did buy a coffee and a mini-donut from Starbucks, and was going to stop at DD to buy more donuts for tomorrow morning (as a kid, Sunday morning wasn't complete without donuts) but managed to refrain there, as well. Less money spent on junk = more money for absurdly expensive but oh so pretty costume for Dragon Con.

In what is at least usually my Mother's Day tradition (admittedly, sometimes when the weather is crap or I'm feeling especially blah, I may miss it) I hoisted myself out of bed at an unreasonably early hour, walked the two miles to the race venue (there are no buses in my neighborhood early Sunday morning) and ran the 5k Race for the Cure. From the time the first runners crossed the starting line till I crossed the finish line was 37:40. It took something like a couple of minutes to get to the start line from way back in the pack so I don't know exactly what my time was, but the times should be posted in a few days.

I think this was definitely the coldest morning that I've done the race. Maybe not quite 40F when I left the house, with a bitter wind. But because I was running and didn't want to carry extraneous things like hats and mittens with me, all I had was my running clothes and a sweatshirt. Brr!

And now I'm back at home, relaxing for the afternoon. I should do laundry at some point, but my shoulder is already angry at me for scrubbing one of the cat boxes yesterday and I'd prefer it not get even angrier. Instead, I watched Doctor Who: Vampires of Venice and now I'm ready to watch the Confidential. And then, well, probably more Doctor Who, since I've discovered that Netflix has season three available to watch instantly. Someday I'll be productive again, but it won't be today, I think.

Happy Mother's Day!

Last weekend I folded laundry. It was Thursday before my arm forgave me for such an egregious attack on itself.

Yesterday I went bra shopping. Tried on probably twenty different bras. I'm hoping my arm forgives me before Thursday this time (dressing and undressing are still rather uncomfortable things for my shoulder/arm/neck area and doing them repeatedly in a short amount of time made it go from uncomfortable to painful before I was done). Today, it's busy shouting at me.

ION, I finally got to watch Doctor Who this morning. Spoilery for 5x05, Flesh and Bone )

Oh, I also got my hair done yesterday. It's not exactly the color I was expecting. Not bad, per se. Just not what I got the last two times. My stylist must have been going off an old set of notes, because I'm pretty sure this is the first color we tried, about a year ago, that I vetoed after the first attempt. It's darker than I'm really comfortable with, and the color mix has more brown in it than I wanted. If this is the color she was thinking I had last time, that explains her amazement at how much it had faded. Oh well, ten weeks until I go back and get it done again, which is a totally liveable amount of time.

Somewhen around April 7, I realized I hadn't paid my phone bill, wondered why I wasn't getting increasingly nasty messages from AT&T, and ran off to pay the bill. Today, going to pay this month's bill, I was told I had a zero balance. Oh yes, I set up automatic payments for my phone in March and then immediately forgot that I did so. I swear, my brain does actually work on occasion. Just, only on occasion.

I did a bit of actual housework today.

*one and a half drainers of dishes washed
*three loads of laundry washed, dried, folded and put away
*living room floor decluttered (I can't say the entire room, because the sofa is still a cluttery mess).
*trimmed the claws on one of Zoe's paws.

Now my arm is very sore and cranky, so I think I'm done for today. I've started a Doctor Who story, more out of desire to do some writing than having any actual story to tell. I may work on that a little bit more while waiting for this week's episode to become available/download. And, as always, there is exciting hockey in store this evening. Game six of the Pens/Sens series, to be fought in Ottawa. Pens better get their tushies in gear and win this game, that's all I have to say on the matter.
auntiemeesh: (eleventh doctor)
I resisted, but I suppose I was always going to give in and get an Eleventh Doctor icon. I'm not exactly in love with this one, but until something better comes along, it will have to do.

5x03, Victory of the Daleks )
auntiemeesh: (fifth doctor)
It is cold and rainy today. Which is better than colder and snowy, I suppose. Mal and Zoe both seem to enjoy sitting in the window watching the rain and I'm warm and snug inside, so things could be significantly worse.

Buffalo and Boston played their second game of round one this afternoon, and being a little bit bored, I watched most of the game from the perspective of the NBC ISO cam focused on Zdeno Chara. Kind of a weird way to watch a game, since the camera follows one player the whole time he's on the ice, whether he's anywhere near the puck or not. There's no play by play, instant replay or anything fancy like that, just whichever player their focusing on and the sounds of the game. Next game I watch like this, I'm going to try to watch with a radio broadcast and see how well it syncs up. If it works well enough, I might watch tomorrow's Penguins game this way. At least I'd be able to see a little bit of the action that way. eta: Of course, the whole NBC thing should have tipped me off but didn't because apparently I didn't have my thinking head on yesterday. NBC ISO cam is only when there's a game actually airing on NBC, which a) isn't going to happen for the Pens this round, and b) it would make more sense to just watch the game on NBC when it does happen. Oh well, so much for that work around. *laughs at self*

Today is officially Doctor Who Saturday. I watched Enlightenment (Fifth Doctor) which was a bit silly but fun. Think sea-going vessels from down the centuries, transplanted into outer space, engaged in an America Cup like race around the Solar System. And then add a little more bizarreness because it's Doctor Who.

Next up was The King's Demons, another Fifth Doctor adventure, set in thirteenth century England, in which the Master once again tries to take over the universe by mucking about in England. I liked the Chameleon quite a bit, and there were knights and a boy who looked a lot like Bradley James, and the Doctor engaged in swordfighting.

I found Tegan very annoying in both episodes. She's very shrill, whines a lot, dislikes everyone and everything and yet refuses to just go home when the Doctor offers to drop her off. I think she's my least favorite companion to date (keeping in mind that I'm only familiar with the companions of Four and Five, and the current ones).

And then, because I still had lots of time on my hands and today's episode isn't available yet, I watched the Confidentials for eps one and two of this season.

Did I mention that Mal rousted me out of bed at 7:30 this morning, despite it being Saturday and my day to sleep in? Yeah, it's already been a long day and it's only 4:30.

This timey-wimey icon isn't doing it for me anymore. I guess I'll have to break down and get something more appropriate for Eleven.

Good Friday

Gorgeous day. No more work till Tuesday makes it even better. I'm currently on my front porch, sun boiling down, trying to find a position that won't turn my laptop into a cook-surface while still being able to see the screen. Minimal luck with that so far. I don't really care, though. It's cold inside and hot outside, so I'm outside.

Yesterday we had a baby shower for friend/co-worker D, who's due in about a month. Then, after work, she invited a bunch of us out to dinner at a local Thai place. Mm, yummy pumpkin curry, a glass of wine, work people that I actually like spending time with. By the time I got home, a little after ten I was done for the day and went straight to bed. I made it till 4 am before I needed anything for my shoulder as well, so that was pretty awesome.

New Doctor Who tomorrow. New Doctor, new companion...exciting.
auntiemeesh: (fifth doctor)
Ice skating tonight. This is probably about the fifth time in the past decade that I've actually made it out skating, and I only managed it because [livejournal.com profile] eve11 found a good indoor rink on Neville Island.

cut for occassional bad language )

In other news, I watched Doctor Who: The Mawdryn Undead last night. Fifth Doctor, and it's the first episode that I really remember actual details of from my first viewing as a child. It makes the episode special for nostalgic reasons alone. I liked the episode for the plot as well, though. A fun timey-wimey episode. Plus, it introduces Turlough, and it has the Black Guardian, who wears a delightfully weird raven-topped headpiece.

*Before you all jump on me, I will go to the doctor if it's really bad tomorrow, but I don't expect it to be a problem.

Doctor Who

I finally watched The End of Time, Pt. 1 today.

Spoilers, natch )

Hopefully I won't have to wait quite so long for the second part, and can participate in the squeeing/groaning (whatever comes) at the same time as everyone else.
auntiemeesh: (fourth doctor)
Yesterday was such a write-off. I was in bed well before nine pm. Today I decided to take a day off. I slept in until nearly noon and then spent the rest of the day snuggled up on the sofa watching dvds with Zoe. Half the time she was on the sofa with me, the other half she was scratching the tv. She's even more enthusiastic about that than Mal is.

I watched lots and lots of Friday Night Lights. I've now finished the first season. I've loved Kyle Chandler since his Homefront days and he continues to be awesome here. The show itself is interesting. Every now and then it gets a little bit bogged down in soapy teenage melodrama, and I hate that nearly all the 'teenagers' are played by actors in their mid-twenties. That is, actually, the main reason I can't watch Smallville ever again. Too many grown-ups being fairly unconvincing as kids. It bugs me here, as well, but I've managed to overlook it for the most part.

I also watched Destiny of the Daleks, which is the first serial to feature Lalla Ward as Romana. The Dalek episodes are never my favorites, but I liked this one well enough. It had enough other stuff going on that the Daleks were less bothersome. And it had Davros, who never ceases to be amusing.

I was hoping to avoid any more trips to the vet in the near future, but Zoe has a bit of swelling around her little kitty nipples. It doesn't seem to be bothering her, but it's probably not a good thing, so off to the vet we will go, first thing Saturday morning. Oh yay! At least I can get her the distemper booster she's due for, while we're there.

Oh, ouch. Banged up toe. Strained muscle in my back. Sore neck and shoulders. I'm feeling my years tonight.

Good weekend so far, though.

Girls' Night out last night with [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and people from work. Yummy food and drink. Then Eve and I came back to my place and pretty much crashed.

Today was all about shopping. Over the course of five hours and six stores I got: two bras, three pairs of winter weight cargos, twelve pairs of socks, a pair of Mudd shoes, three long-sleeve tees, one rolled-sleeve tee, one tee/cami set, three pairs of rolled-sleeve button-ups, and season one box sets of Eureka and Friday Night Lights. No more shopping for me until next year.

I had babysitting this evening and introduced a not-quite 2yr old to the joys of hockey. Pittsburgh vs. the Maple Leafs in Toronto. The Pens dominated the entire game and won easily, 5-2. I only let the little guy watch about fifteen minutes of the game, but of course there was a knock down, fists flying fight in the first couple minutes of the game. Try explaining that one.

I also fit in a Doctor Who episode, Image of the Fendahl. Another Fourth Doctor and Leela adventure, it found them in modern day England, dealing with a mystical skull and an old Gallifreyan legend. It featured Leela in a new outfit and hairdo, both of which I hated. Seemingly, so did others, because by the end of the episode, she was back to her normal look. It also had archaeologists, a coven, and a big silly sluglike monster. I liked it.

I have not yet managed to see Bones, Dollhouse, Numb3rs or Merlin from this week, so there will be lots to keep me occupied tomorrow, along with laundry, cleaning, and a little more babysitting.
